Notes: Jackson Godby owned a saw & grist mill on Indian Creek.

Before the war, Jackson’s father, George Godby, moved to a daughter’s home in Lenoir, TN where he died in 1874. George was b. 1796, s/o William whose will probated in 1833. He married Nancy Elswick 1811 Montgomery Co., VA bond. Jackson’s mother Nancy was a daughter of Jonathan Elswick.

“Dr. Wells (USN) had attended William M. Evans, a young lawyer, when he was ill with typhoid fever and pneumonia. The two had been friends in Virginia and had come west together. Soon after Evans died, Wells also died. They lie side by side.”

William Moore Evans is buried in Block 34 Lot 87 G2N. Dr. Wells is buried in Block 8M Lot 53 G1N. It's a pretty story, the friends buried next to each other, but it's not accurate. 8M is a long way from 34.

John T. Wells buried on October 25, 1882.
