Son of George and Martha.
Original settler of the Argabright homestead, on which the cemetery, aka Argabright-Williams, is located. He was a Civil War veteran. Because he was born on Valentine's Day in 1839, he was named Valentine. He gave his name of Valentine to his youngest son, Daniel V. Argabright. Daniel was called "Tine" by most everyone in Hill Top, where he lived and died. His death was the first in his family, leaving a wife and 12 children. Daniel is buried in Hill Top Cemetery.

Samuel Valentine Argabright was a Civil War veteran of both armies in that conflict. He lived in Floyd County, VA when the war broke out and joined the Confederate Army. One day he got a letter from his home saying his children were sick. He was refused a pass to go home to see about the situation. Angered, the young soldier deserted. On picket duty at the time and not far from the Union Army lines, at an opportune moment he ditched his Confederate musket and made for the Yankee line. There he enlisted as a Union soldier and stated his case. They let him go home but when he reached his home, both of his young children had died with diphtheria.
He served the Union army and was in action at the battle of Gettysburg, July 1 - 3, 1863. After the war Argabright made his way to Fayette County and got a farm of some 60 acres on the mountain between Mount Hope and Pax.
Upon leaving the Union army, Argabright took up preaching and was ordained by the Baptist denomination. His limited ministry was in Fayette and Raleigh counties. Argabright, like Rev. W.H.H. Cook of Wyoming County, first joined the Confederate Army and then switched to serve with the Union Army to the end of the struggle.

Tine Argabright was the son of Rev. S V and Annie Argabright. He wed Eliza Jane Creger on March 19, 1899 when he was 21 and she was 16. They made their home at Hilltop and had a dozen children together before Tine's death at age 55.
As a minister's son, Tine held fast to his Christian faith and upbringing. He was a faithful member of the Red Star Baptist Church. He was also a member of the International Order of Oddfellows.
In his October 7, 1966 "Yesterday and Today" column for the Beckley Register Herald, Shirley Donnelly memorialized Tine and his large family. A copy of that section of the article is attached in the photo section.
