William Martin Akers of Potosi, Missouri departed this life on July 11, 2011 at the Potosi Manor Nursing Home having reached the age of seventy nine years, ten months and twelve days. He was born on August 29, 1931 at Potosi, Missouri a son to the late Fred Akers and Hattie (Bouse) Akers.

On December 14, 1963, William was united in marriage to Shirley Clemings and they shared forty seven years together.

In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by two brothers Perry Akers, Fred Akers, Jr. and a son in law Douglas Morgan. Those who remain to mourn his passing are his wife Shirley Akers of Potosi; step son Jim Mosey of Potosi; step daughters Jan Morgan of Potosi, Linda (John) Ayres of Potosi, Carol (Joe) Litton of Potosi; sisters Mamie Wigger of Potosi, Annabelle Patterson of Mineral Point, Dorothy Andrews of St. Louis; sister in law Annabelle Akers of Colorado; six grandchildren; many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends who will sadly miss him. Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at 2 PM at the DeClue Chapel with Rev. Carl Wilson officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Joe Litton, Tim Litton, Steven Litton, Scott Litton, Gale Pulliam and David Akers. Interment and final prayers were held at Sunset Hill Cemetery. All arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the DeClue Family Funeral Home.

Life Legacy Fred H. Akers, 70, Fort Morgan, passed away Sunday, January 27, 2008, at the Colorado Plains Medical Center. He was born September 16, 1937, in Potosi, MO, to Fred & Hattie Akers. After graduating from High School, Fred joined the US Marine Corp in 1955. Following his discharge from the Marine Corp, Fred later joined the US Air Force. He retired from his military career after serving over 21 years.

On January 20, 1960, Fred married Anna Bailey in Potosi, MO. In 1999 the Akers moved to Fort Morgan. Fred enjoyed reading, woodworking, yard work, and being with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Anna, of Fort Morgan; 1 daughter, JoAnn Harrison of Denver; 3 sons, Jerry of Brighton, Bryon of Lakewood, and Jeff of Denver; 1 brother, Bill of Potosi, MO; 3 sisters, Annabel Patterson of Mineral Point, MO, Dorothy Andrews of St. Louis, MO, and Mamie Wigger of Potosi, MO; 11 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 1 brother, 1 sister, and his parents. A memorial service will be held at the Heer & Jolliffe Mortuary Chapel in Fort Morgan on Wednesday, January 30, 2008, at 1:00 PM. The service will conclude at the mortuary. Private inurnment will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver. Friends who wish may make memorial gifts to the Fred Akers Memorial Fund c/o Heer Mortuaries, 225 E. Platte Avenue, Fort Morgan, CO 80701.
