Radford Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was formerly of New Castle and
Floyd, Va. She was preceded
in death by her parents, Henry and Pattie Ridinger;
husband, Wyatt Tolbert; brothers, Claude, Jimmy and Thornton Ridinger; sisters, Ann Davis and Sadie Layman; stepson,
Palmer Tolbert.
Graveside service
will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 2002 at Jacksonville Cemetery, with Rev.
Emory Tarpley officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to
10:45 a.m. Saturday at the Maberry Funeral Home, Floyd. In lieu of memorials,
please arrange a visit to someone in a nursing home or an elderly person. The
family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Radford
Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and her caretakers, including Mrs. Bernice
Peterman, for their loving care. |

2002 in the Bedford County Nursing Home. She was born February 16, 1912 in
Floyd County, a daughter of the late Cleveland Smith and Sarah Nolan Smith.
She was a retired nurse and was of the Baptist Faith. She was preceded in
death by three brothers, Melvin Smith, Harry Smith, and Edgar Smith. She is
survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Colene T. and Thornton Cannaday, Bedford; two granddaughters, Rhonda C. Wilson,
Lake Wiley, S.C., Lisa C. and Edward R. Turner, Forest; a
great-granddaughter, Brittanie Turner, Forest; three sisters, Cornelia
Gallimore, Elaine Dobyns, both of Christiansburg, Vivian Nolen, Salem; a brother,
Ralph R. Smith, Jenkintown, Pa. A funeral service will be conducted Monday,
July 29, 2002 at 2 p.m. from the Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford by the Rev.
Ed Greer. Interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may call
after 12 noon today and the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. at
Updike Funeral Home and Cremation Service. |

November 25, 2000. He served in the Army as a paratrooper during World War II with
the 11th Airborne Division, was a retired driver for Greyhound, a member of
Colonial Baptist Church and a member of the Willis Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer Miles Turman and Minnie Marshall Turman, his wife, Patricia East Turman, a brother, Artie C. Turman and a grandson, William Dustin Robinson. Surviving are his daughters,
Linda Robinson and husband, Steve, Blue Ridge, Debbie Robinson and Tina
Turman, both of Roanoke; grandchildren,
Neal Robinson and wife Pam, Kimberly Schaffer, Amanda Robinson, Jessica
Graham and husband Cecil; great-grandchildren,
Joshua Schaffer, Brandon Robinson, Anthony Robinson, Austin Mercy and Dawson
Robinson; brothers, John M. Turman and wife Nita, Floyd, Lucas G. Turman and

1999 Roanoke Times, The (VA) - Sunday, January 2, 2000 TURMAN, McDonald, 85, of Chesapeake, passed away Thursday,
December 30, 1999 at Chesapeake General Hospital. He was the son of the late Mack and Dora Hollandsworth
Turman. He was preceded in death by his wife, Daphnia V. Turman; six
brothers, Harley, Hardie, Mowyer, Paul, Foster and
Frank Turman; two sisters, Maggie Dalton and Sophia Turpin. He served in World War II in the Army Air Corps and retired from
the Norfolk Naval Air Station as a master Aviation Mechanic. Surviving are three sons, Donald Rodney Turman, Herndon, Va.,
Gary Lee Turman and Hal Eugene Turman, Chesapeake, Va.; two sisters,
Annie Dalton, Virginia Beach, Va. and Maudie Turman, Hillsville,
Va.; five grandchildren and one great-grandson. He was a loving, caring and faithful husband and father who will
be deeply missed. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Indian Valley Church of
God with Rev. Kenneth Poston officiating. Burial will follow in Captain George Quesenberry
Cemetery, Indian Valley, Va. Maberry Funeral Home, Floyd, Va. is in charge of

Times, The (VA) - Saturday, August 6, 2005 (src: GenealogyBank.com) Walter Lee Turman, 92, of Christiansburg, passed away Wednesday,
August 3, 2005 at New River Valley Medical Center. Walter was born and raised
in Floyd, Virginia. He was a retired Roanoke City Police officer having spent
twenty-five years of service as a patrolman. He then served as warehouse
foreman for the Roanoke County School System. He was a loyal member of the
Fraternal Order of Police and Mountain Dale Lodge #49 Independent Order of Oddfellows.
Walter was an avid Harley Davidson enthusiast and admirer and expert of steam
engines. In addition, he had a love for clocks, which he collected and
repaired for many years. He was a longtime member of Shenandoah Baptist
Church and most recently Faith Missionary Baptist Church. Walter was a loving
husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend to many and will surely be
graciously missed by all. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and
Alice Turman; and two brothers, Woodrow and Doris Turman. Survivors include
his wife of 65 years, Addie Mae Turman, Christiansburg; son and
daughter-in-law, Donald Lee and Romona T. Turman,
Salem; granddaughter and husband, Leigh Ann and David Foster, Roanoke;
great-grandchild on the way, Taylor Foster; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, August 6, 2005 at the Maberry
Funeral Home Chapel, Floyd, with the Rev. Michael Vest and the Rev. Alvin
Crutchfield officiating. Interment will follow in Jacksonville Cemetery,
Floyd. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Maberry
Funeral Home. |
