Henry, Nathaniel Winston Contributed by BarbR
Dec 2018 |
1851 Richmond Enquirer - issue of 16 Sep 1851 Departed this life, on
Saturday, Sept 6th in Jacksonville, Floyd Co., Va. Mr. Nathaniel Henry, aged
about seventy. The deceased was a son of the justly celebrated patriot and
orator, Patrick Henry, and inherited much of the sprightliness and vivacity
which distinguished his honored father. His disease was dropsy, combined with
an affliction of the heart and his sufferings were lingering and at times
severe, yet he bore up under them with remarkable fortitude. Southern Sentinel, Plaquemine, Parish of Iberville, LA, July 8,
1854 Son of a Patriot.—Patrick Henry's youngest son, Nathaniel, died
recently, destitute and alone, at an inn in Floyd county, Virginia, without
money, friends, or resources of any kind. The keeper of the tavern applied to
the overseers of the poor for payment of his board and funeral expenses but
was refused. Nathaniel died of dropsy of the chest, a few moments after the
operation of tapping had been performed. His last occupation was teaching,
but his health failing, he removed to a hotel in Jacksonville, the host of
which kept him a year or more in expectation that some relatives or friends
would defray his expenses. He was young when his father died, but he
remembered him very well, and loved to talk of him. |

& Dorthea Spotswood Danridge Henry. Nathaniel m. Virginia Ann Woodson,
1796-1838, d/o Miller Woodson. |
