Headline: Obituaries-DEATH TAKES MORGAN LEADER AT 85

George Sylvester Heiner, 85, of 2248 Madison, former Morgan County resident and active church and civic leader, died Tuesday night at his home of natural caused.
Mr. Heiner was born March 2, 1886, in Pleasant Grove, Utah, a son of Daniel and Sarah Coulam Heiner.
He was married to Elsie Clawson in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She died June 3, 1949.
He was married to Sadie Sharp Dean on Oct. 22, 1952, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
He served as mayor of Morgan City in 1912. In 1926 he was elected as Morgan County commisioner, serving 14 years.
In 1946 he was elected to the Morgan County School Board and served for 10 years. He was a charter member of the Morgan Lions Club
STAKE PRESIDENT
A member of the LDS Church, he was president of the Morgan Stake from 1941 to 1948 and had been a stake patriarch since 1948. He was a member of the Ogden 6th Ward and Morgan Stake High Priest Quorum.
Mr. Heiner was a mink rancher in Morgan and lived in Morgan until coming to Ogden three years ago.
Surviving are his widow of Ogden; two sons and two daughters, Sylvester M. Heiner, Ogden; Don D. Heiner, Hayward, Calif.; Mrs. Eulala Butters, Bountiful; Mrs. Elsie M. Andrews, Salt Lake City; three stepsons, Claude C. Dean, Leo A. Dean, both of Salt Lake City; Don M. Dean, Barstow, Calif.; 35 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are three brothers and two sisters, Spencer Heiner, Mrs. Sophia Anderson, both of Salt Lake City; Henry Heiner, Morgan; Cash Heiner, South Dakota; Mrs. Disk Boyce, Northridge, Calif.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Morgan LDS Stake Tabernacle.
Friends may call at the Larkin and Sons Mortuary in Ogden Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and at the stake center in Morgan Saturday after 12 noon.
Burial will be in the North Morgan Cemetery.

PARKER, James H.

SOUTH OGDEN---James Hewson Parker, 65, of 4045 Country Club Drive, died at his home Tuesday morning of a heart attack.
Mr. Parker was born Dec. 7, 1906, in Kansas City, Mo., a son of Ralph and Myrtle Hewson Parker.
He was married to Margaret Benson on March 1, 1935 in Coronado, Calif.
He was a vice president and general manager of the Rocky Mountain Bank Note Co., in Salt Lake City, and western region member of the board of the directors of the company.
He was a graduate of the University of Southern California and Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington, Mo.
He was a member of the Ogden Golf and Country Club, Weber Club in Ogden and Alta Club in Salt Lake City.
He was a member of the Episcopal Church.
Surviving are his widow; one daughter, Mrs. Jane P. Preston, Logan; three grandchildren; one sister, Miss Elizabeth Parker, Los Angeles, Calif.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in St. Marks Episcopal Cathedral, 231 E. 1st St., Salt Lake City.
Burial will be in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery, directed by Evans and Early Mortuary, Salt Lake City.
The family suggests contributions to the Shriners’ Hospital for Crippled Children.

WASHINGTON TERRACE---Mrs. Leona Bertagnolli Stacey, 24, of 142 W. 4800 S., died this morning at the McKay Hospital of natural causes.
Mrs. Stacey was born Oct. 21, 1947, in Ogden, a daughter of Carl F. and Carolina Ferro Bertagnolli.
She was married to David C. Stacey on Oct. 27, 1964, in Ogden.
A lifelong resident of Ogden, she was a member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
She attended Ogden City Schools.
Surviving are her husband and one daughter, Karl Lee Stacey, Ogden; her parents of Ogden; two brothers and one sister, Frank Bertagnolli, and Ben Bertagnolli, both of Ogden; Mrs. Linda Hensen, California.
Mass of the resurrection will be offered Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
Holy rosary will be recited Thursday at 8 p.m. at Larkin Chapel of the Dawn where friends may call Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. and Friday prior to services.
Burial will be in the Ogden City Cemetery.

MALAD, Idaho---William Charles Benjamin (Ben) Hess, 85, of Malad, died Tuesday in a Pocatello, Idaho, nursing home of natural causes.
Mr. Hess was born Aug. 20, 1886, in Embree, Mo., a son of Frank C. and Henrietta Koehler Hess.
He was married to Sallie Appleby on July 15, 1909, in Chattanooga, Okla.
He was a farmer and rancher and was a member of the IOOF Lodge.
Surviving are his widow of Malad; two sons, Ray L. Hess, Herbert A. Hess, both of Malad; 13 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; one brother, W. Thomas Hess, Bellflower, Calif.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in the Malad 3rd LDS Ward Chapel with Bishop Lon W. Corbridge officiating.
Friends may call at the Benson Funeral Home Thursday evening and Friday prior to services.
Burial will be in the Malad City Cemetery.

ABBOTT, Bertha I.

WEST JORDAN, UTAH---Mrs. Bertha Irving Abbott, 90, of 8024 S. 1700 W., died Tuesday at her home of natural causes.
Mrs. Abbott was born July 24, 1881 in West Jordan, a daughter of John W. and Rachel Gardner Irving.
She was married to Charles LeRoy Abbott on June 28, 1905. He died Jan.11, 1952.
Among the survivors is a son, Hallis Abbott, Roy.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in the Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 S. State, Murray.
Friends may call at the mortuary Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday one hour prior to services.
Burial will be in the West Jordan Cemetery.

HONDA, James M.

James M. Honda

James Masanobu Honda, 54, of 1065 Wall, died Monday at his home of natural causes.
Mr. Honda was born April 7, 1917, in Sacramento, Calif.
On June 29, 1949, he was married to Hideko Matsumoto. She died May 8, 1963.
He came to Ogden in 1943 and was owner and operator at Dave’s Cleaners in Ogden.
He served with the U.S. Army during World War II.
Surviving are two daughters, Miss Wendy Honda, Ogden; Mrs. Curtis (Janie) Nakaishi, Salt Lake City; three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. at Lindquist and Sons Colonial Chapel with Rev. Bill Nishimura of the Japanese Christian Church officiating.
Friends may call at the mortuary tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 3 p.m.
Burial will be in the Ogden City Cemetery with military honors accorded.

Elizabeth H. Phelps---Mrs. Elizabeth Hipwell Phelps, 71, of 337 30th, died Wednesday afternoon at the McKay Hospital after a short illness.
Mrs. Phelps was born Aug. 1, 1900. In Ogden, a daughter of John and Louisa Ann Knight Hipwell.
She was reared and educated in Ogden.
On Sept. 24, 1925, she was married to Ezra Phelps in Ogden. He died in September 1968.
She was a member of the Ladies Auxillary to the Union Pacific Old Timers Club and 9th LDS Ward. She had been a Primary teacher, Sunday school teacher and Relief Society visiting teacher in the 11th Ward, and was a Relief Society visiting teacher in the 9th Ward.
Surviving are one son, Sheldon E. Phelps, Ogden; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Also surviving are four brothers, William K. Hipwell, Ogden; Arvil Hipwell, Arnold Hipwell, both of West Weber; Oscar Hipwell, Martinez, Calif.; three sisters, Mrs. Elbert (Edna) Moyes, Plain City; Mrs. Dewey (LaVina) Swope, Toledo, Ohio; Mrs. William (Maude) Conger, Ogden.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Flowers Mortuary with Bishop Charles L. Datwyler of the 9th Ward officiating.
Friends may call at the mortuary Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m.
Burial will be in the Aultorest Memorial Park.

Mrs. Belva (Ginger) Wilson Burton Grasby, 66, of 2557 Adams, died Wednesday at her home of natural causes.
Mrs. Grasby was born March 1, 19**, in Ogden, a daughter of Thomas and Virgie McIntire Wilson.
She was married to Dale S. Burton in 1930. They were divorced. She was married to Earl J. Grasby on Dec. 31, 1946. He died April 27, 1968.
She lived in Ogden most of her life and in Seattle, Wash., from 1940 to 1945.
She attended Weber Academy for two years.
She was a member of the 5th LDS Ward and had been active in Primary serving in the Primary presidency. She served in the 2nd Ward Relief Society presidency, and was captain in Daughters of Utah Pioneers, Camp C. She had been a member of the Tabernacle Choir in Salt Lake City.
Surviving are one son, Loren G. Burton, Salt Lake City: four daughters, Mrs. George (Virgie) Cunningham, Seattle, Wash.; Mrs. Pierre (Pat) Bienco**, Sunny Valley, Ore.; Mrs. Gerald (A***) Evans, Ogden; Mrs. Judge (Belva) Hawks, Bountiful; 23 grandchildren; mother of Ogden.
Also surviving are two half brothers, Clark Wells Marriott, Grant Marriott, both of San Bernardino, Calif.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Lindquist and Sons Colonial Chapel with Bishop Gilbert R. Shaw of the 5th Ward officiating.

KAYSVILLE---Mrs. Clara Kraft Burton, 69, of Kaysville, died at her home Wednesday of a heart attack.
Mrs. Burton was born Oct. 4, 1902 in La Grande, Ore., a daughter of Ferdinand and Mary Rosa Froehlin Kraft.
She was married to Clifford C. Burton on May 10, 1939, in Salt Lake City. He died Aug. 27, 1964.
She was employed in the management clerical department at Hill Air Force Base, and was formerly a registered nurse for 30 years.
She moved to Salt Lake City in 1919 and came to Kaysville in May 1939.
She was an active member of the Kaysville 5th Ward and had been a temple worker.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Kaysville 5th Ward Chapel, 6th East and Center, with Bishop Richard Farr officiating.
Friends may call at Lindquist’s Kaysville Mortuary, 340 N. Main, Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday until 10:30 a.m.
Burial will be in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.

Glen Bitton Moyes, 57, of 1270 Henderson Drive, died this morning at the McKay Hospital of natural causes.
Mr. Moyes was born March 23, 19**, in Ogden, a son of Norman Kay and Minnie Bitton Moyes.
He was married to Erma DeCorso on Dec. 16, 1946 in Ogden.
He was owner-manager of The Grill Tavern for 27 years. Prior to that time, he worked for Williamsen’s Inc.
He was a veteran of World War II and was a member of the Eagles Lodge and LDS Church.
Surviving are his widow of Ogden, two sons and one daughter; Glen *. Moyes, Salt Lake City; Gary Kay Moyes, Miss Vicky Moyes, both of Ogden; mother of Ogden.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Myers Mortuary Chapel where friends may call Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday prior to services.
Burial will be in the Ogden City Cemetery.

PHELPS, George A..

George A. Phelps

George Adain Phelps, 62, of 310 Cross, died this morning at the McKay Hospital of a cerebral hemorrhage.
Mr. Phelps was born May 30, 1909, in Kell, Ill., a son of Ranson Edmund and Loula May George Phelps.
On June 14, 1930, he was married to Stella Eliza Buckley in Bountiful.
He was educated in Kell, Ill., and Montana, later moving to Smithfield, Utah, and Ogden.
He was a member of the Mound Fort 1st LDS Ward and was a high priest. He was a member of the Local Fireman and Oilers Union.
He had been a crane operator for the Union Pacific Railroad, retired June 23, 1971, after 45 years of service.
Surviving are his widow of Ogden; one son Ralph C. Phelps, Brigham City; five daughters, Mrs. Jack (Pat) Singleton, Mrs. Ed (Arlene) Edson, Mrs. Keith (Carma) Coleman; Mrs. George (Margaret) Bain, all of Ogden; Mrs. David (Mary) Stewart, Sacramento, Calif.; 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are three brothers, Keith Phelps, Ogden; Charles Phelps, Clearfield; Jesse Phelps, Nampa, Idaho; three sisters, Mrs. Clarence (Edna) Mobley, Mrs. Don (Kathryn) Wheelright, both of Ogden; Mrs. Vern (Ruby) Lindstrom, Bellingham, Wash.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. in the Lindquist and Sons Colonial Chapel.

BRIGHAM CITY---Mrs. Elizabeth Kirkpatrick Hankins, 72, of 715 Oak Drive, died this morning at the Cooley Hospital after an extended illness.
Mrs. Hankins was born Jan. 25, 1900, in Canton, Ohio, a daughter of Chaunchy and Laura Kitridge Kirkpatrick.
She was married to Nathaniel Reeve Hankins.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and had lived in Brigham City the past 10 years.
Surviving are her husband of Brigham City; two sons and one daughter, Nathaniel Reeve Hankins, Bangkok, Thailand; William Kirkpatrick Hankins, Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. James H. (Bettie) Buell, New Richmond, Wis.; 13 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the Olsen-Felt Funeral Chapel, 205 S. 1st E.

Claude Wilson Atwood, 80, of 2358 Orchard, died Thursday morning in a local nursing home of natural causes.
Mr. Atwood was born Feb. 1, 1892, in Payson, Utah, a son of Alonzo and Martha J. Wilson Atwood.
He was married to Flora Robinson. She died in 1953. He was later married to Sarah Hayes. She died in 1970.
He had lived in Ogden since 1941 and was a locomotive mechanic for the railroad before retiring.
He was a member of the 6th LDS Ward.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Forrest (Helen) Wing, Ogden; three grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Larkin Chapel of the Dawn with Bishop Normand Lund officiating.

Mrs. Genevieve Murphy Thinnes, 69, of 1680 Binford, died this morning at St. Benedict’s Hospital of natural causes.
Mrs. Thinnes was born Aug. 19, 1902, in Clinton, Iowa, a daughter of James P. and Eva Florentina Murphy.
She was married to Leo E. Thinnes on June 30, 1922 in Ogden.
She had lived in Ogden the past 60 years and had been a registered nurse in the Ogden area for 51 years.
She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, past president of the Catholic Women’s League and St. Joseph’s School PTA. She was a member of Neighbors of Woodcraft, Southern Pacific Old Timers Auxillary, Royal Neighbors of America, Utah State Nurses Association and Thomas D. Dee Hospital Nurses Alumni.
Surviving are her husband of Ogden; one daughter, Mrs. Jack W. (Margaret) Munson, Harker Heights, Tex.; four grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; one brother and one sister, A.L. Murphy, Mrs. W.C. (Barbara) Bright, both of Ogden.
Mass of the resurrection will be offered Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

MALAD, Idaho---Mrs. Ethel Mary John Roderick, 87, of Malad, died Thursday of natural causes in the Oneida County Hospital.
Mrs. Roderick was born Sept. 13, 1884, in Portage, Utah, a daughter of Henry and Margaret Rees John.
She was married to John P. Roderick on Nov. 12, 1902 in the Logan LDS Temple. Mr. Roderick died Sept. 8, 1934.
She was educated in Portage.
She was an active member of the LDS Church and served as Primary president for 20 years, teacher and secretary in the Relief Society, Sunday School teacher and Primary teacher in Samaria Ward.
She was active in the Red Cross during World War II.
Surviving are one son and two daughters, John J. Roderick, Pleasant View, Idaho; Mrs. Loren (Ruth) Hays, Mrs. Donald (Bertha) Howard, both of Bountiful; 10 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 12 noon in the Malad 2nd Ward Chapel with Bishop Gordon Crowther officiating.

Burial will be in the Samaria City Cemetery.

Mrs. Stanton was born Feb. 19, 1886, in Rock Spring, Wyo., a daughter of Ralph and Frances Todd Zwicky.
She was married to William Eldredge Stanton. He died in 1955.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Salt Lake City.
She had lived in Salt Lake City over 60 years.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 12 noon in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Salt Lake City.

EVANSTON, Wyo.---Milton Amenzo Johnson, 59, of Evanston, died Thursday in a Salt Lake City hospital following brain surgery.
He was born May 11, 1912, in Robertson, Wyo., a son of Joseph A. and Sarah Baker Johnson. He was married to Gwen Marsh, June 22, 1938, in Coalville, Utah.
He was an engineer of the Union Pacific Railroad Co.and was a member of the LDS Church, serving as a counselor in the Evanston 5th Ward bishopric.
He was a former superintendent of the 4th Ward YMMIA and former counselor in the Woodruff Stake YMMIA.
He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen and Union Pacific Old Timers Club, No. 20.
Surviving are his widow, Evanston, one son, two daughters, Lyle Johnson, Huachuca City, Ariz.; Mrs. Ed (Pat) Pennigton, Loveland, Colo.; Miss Trudy Johnson, Laramie; five grandchildren; one brother, three sisters, J. Miss Josephine C. Berlin, 87, formerly of 938 23rd, died this morning at McKay Dee Hospital.
She was born May 30, 1883, in Huntsville, a daughter of Andrew E. and Caroline Cangren Berlin.
She was reared and educated in Huntsville and Ogden. She had also lived in Rupert, Idaho and Salt Lake City.
She had been a nurse. She was also a seamstress employed with American Linen Supply Co. and Dee Art School.
She was a member of the 13th Ward.
Surviving are four brothers and one sister, Joseph E. Berlin, Green River, Wyo.; David A. Berlin and Fred A. Berlin, Ogden; Arnold A. Berlin, Huntsville; Mrs. Sylvanus (Hilda) Boyack, Palo Alto, Calif.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Larkin Chapel of the Dawn with Bishop Richard Chidester of the 13th Ward officiating.

PLAIN CITY---Mathew Kennedy, 83, of Plain City, died Friday at the Weber Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Kennedy was born May 11, 1888, in Randolph, a son of Matthew and Dorothy Corliss Kennedy.
On May 29, 1916, he was married to Hazel England in Plain City.
He had been a farmer and was a member of the Plain City 2nd Ward.
He was a member of the Weber County Farm Bureau and had been watermaster for the Warren Canal. He had resided in Randolph prior to coming to Plain City 59 years ago.
Surviving are his widow, Plain City; a daughter, Mrs. Robert W. (Dorothy) Fisher, Plain City; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Bessie Smith, Mrs. Florence Meyers, Mrs. Harold (Jen) Shupe, Mrs. Rondo (Lynn) Olsen, all of Ogden; Mrs. Joe (Annie) DeBry, San Jose, Calif.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. in the Plain City 2nd Ward Chapel with Bishop Kent Calvert officiating.

Morris Thomas Divelbiss, 66, of 1444 Lake, died Friday at his home of natural causes.
He was born Jan. 18, 1906, in Oliveburg, Pa., a son of George and Matilda Morris Divelbiss. On Oct. 23, 1929, he was married to Lola Clouser in Newport, Pa.
He had been employed as a machinist at Hill AFB, prior to retirement. He was a member of the Masonic Blue Lodge of Rome, N.Y., the Harrisburg, Pa., Consistory of the F. and A.M. and the Lutheran Church.
He had resided in Middletown, prior to coming here six years ago.
Surviving are his widow, Ogden; his mother, Altona, Pa.; a sister, Laura Divelbiss, Altona.

She was born July 21, 1881, at Perry, a daughter of John David and Louisa Bingham Peters. She was married April 28, 1904, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple to William Vosco Call. He died May 8, 1957.

She was a graduate of BY College at Logan and taught school in Box Elder County School District. She was author of five published books and several short stories.
She was Northern Utah Mother of the Year in 1951. She was past president of the Civic Improvement Club and the Kindergarten Club.
She was an officer in the PTA, president of the Primary and was a counselor in the stake MIA and Primary Boards. She was a member of the Brigham City 4th Ward.

CLEARFIELD---Annie Elizabeth Wallace Bawden, 83, of 661 Maple, died Friday in the McKay-Dee Hospital of natural causes.
She was born Oct. 21, 1888, in Granger, a daughter of Josiah Davis and Ann Elizabeth Bertoch Wallace.
She was married to Willard George Bawden on April 20, 1910, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He died Mar. 7, 1968.
A graduate of the LDS Academy, Mrs. Bawden taught school in East Mill-Creek and Hunter.
She was active in the LDS Church, teaching both religion classes and Sunday School for many years. She served as chorister for more than 20 years and was active in singing circles as a soloist.
She and her late husband made their home in Granger until his death when she moved to Clearfield.

Charles Renaldo Raty, 90, of 324 17th, died Saturday evening at the McKay Hospital.
Mr. Raty was born Jan. 1, 1882, In Marriott, Utah, a son of Peter and Mary Ann Ekins Raty.
On June 12, 1900, he was married to Emma Elizabeth Tracy in Ogden. She died Oct. 29, 1964.

LAYTON---Ernest Franklin Murdock, Sr., 61, of 532 Coales, Died at his home this morning of a heart attack.
Mr. Murdock was born Feb. 21, 1911, in Beaver, Utah, a son of Warren Franklin and Myrtle Eyre Murdock.
He was married to Irene Harman on Nov. 25, 1938, in Salt Lake City. The marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on May 12, 1965.
He was employed at Hill Air Force Base and formerly taught school in Star Valley. Wyo., and Gunnison, Utah.
He had lived in Beaver, Provo, Star Valley, Gunnison and Washington D.C. moving to Davis County in 1944.
He was a graduate of Brigham Young University.
From 1958 to 1968 he was field representative for the Federal Employee’s Credit Union. He was an active member of the Layton 9th LDS Ward and had served as high priest, ward clerk, and MIA secretary.
Surviving are his widow of Layton; two sons and two daughters, Warren Harman Murdock, Ernest Franklin Murdock, Jr., both of Layton; Mrs. Neldon R. (Joan) Monroe, Clinton; Mrs. Robert (Irene) Downs, Beaufort, S.C.; five grandchildren.

Mrs. Mary Scardino Ferro Strevay, 84, of 2376 Monroe, died Saturday at St. Benedict’s Hospital.
Mrs. Strevay was born Aug. 16, 1887, in Italy, a daughter of Vincent and Rosa Scardino.
She was married to Stephen Ferro. He died in 1917. In 1923 she was married to Paul Strevay in Ogden.
She had lived in Ogden since 1923 and she and Mr. Strevay operated the Strevay operated the Strevay Grocery Store. He died in 1946 and she continued to operate the store until retiring in 1962.
She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
Surviving are three sons and two daughters, John P. Strevay, Ogden; Joseph Ferro, Sparks, Nev.; Anthony Ferro, Sacramento, Calif.; Mrs. Leonard (Mary) Erkelens, Mrs. W.A. (Lillian) Wright, both of Ogden; 21 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Lt. Col. Myron Roy Gillette, 77, (U.S. Army, ret.), of 1637 30th died at his home Sunday of natural causes.
He was born Dec. 8, 1894 in Randolph, Iowa, a son of Alva V. and Lois H. Gillette.
On Sept. 25, 1924 he was married to Gail Kennedy in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
He lived in Washington D.C., Chicago, Ill., Salt Lake City and Ogden.
He graduated from Tarkio College in Missouri and the University of Iowa with a degree in chemistry. He attended the University of Nebraska College of Law and was head of the chemistry department at Cotner College, Lincoln, Neb.; and assistant to the dean of chemistry at the University of Nebraska.
He was a member of the Congregational Church.
He served with the Army during World War I, World War II and the Korean War.
He had been an executive officer at the Tooele Ordinance Depot and was later assigned duty at the Ogden Arsenal, retiring as lieutenant colonel in 1953 after 35 years of service.
He was a Master Mason of Crown Lodge No. 439 F&A.M. in Randolph, Iowa. He was a member of Utah Consistory, El Kalah Temple, Heroes of ’76, Ogden Shrine Club and Defense Depot Officer’s Club and Ogden Chapter No. 291, of the National Sojourners.
He founded the Gillette Paint and Varnish Co. in Chicago, Ill.
Surviving are his widow of Ogden; one daughter, Mrs. John (Lou) Hillard, Rock Spring, Wyo.; two grandchildren.
Public Masonic funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Lindquist and Son’s Colonial Chapel with officers of Weber Lodge No. 6, F&AM, officiating.

BLANDING, Utah---Mrs. Mary Peterson Laws, 80, of Blanding, formerly of Ogden, died Monday in the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City of natural causes.
Mrs. Laws was born on Feb. 21, 1892, in Colonial Diaz, Chihauhua, Mexico, a daughter of Frands and Louise Christoferson Peterson.
She was married to Wilford Derby Laws on June 9, 1909, in Diaz, Mexico. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He died April 4, 1951.
She came to Utah in 1912.
She served an LDS Mission in Blanding with the Indians for 2 1/2 years. She worked in the Indian MIA Auxillaries, and also served as Relief Society and Primary Teacher.

LAYTON---Lawrence Charles Lake, 70, of 474 Flint, died Monday in the McKay Dee Hospital in Ogden after an extended illness.
Mr. Lake was born Oct. 20, 1901, in Ammon, Idaho, a son of Hyrum and Sarah Elizabeth Phillips Lake.
He was married to Marguerite Young on June 23, 1928, in Malad, Idaho. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 23, 1936.
He had been a farmer and rancher for the Ellison Ranch Co. in Layton for 15 years. He was employed as a yard foreman for Bestway Building Co. in Layton for 15 years, retiring in 1967.
He was a member of the Layton 4th LDS Ward.
Surviving are his widow of Layton; five daughters, Mrs. Calvin (Lorraine) Selly, Ogden; Mrs. Thayne (Genevieve) Green, Mrs. Dale (Bernice) Leishman, both of Layton; Mrs. R. L. (Afton) Robbins, North Bend, Ore.; Mrs. Gary (Sharon) Jackson, San Jose, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; his stepmother, Mrs. Eunice Lake, Stoddard, Utah.

MOUNTAIN GREEN---Hugh Mack Cooik, 52, of Box 232, Mountain Green, Morgan County, died Tuesday morning at the McKay Hospital in Ogden of natural causes.
Mr. Cook was born Sept. 23, 1919, in Ogden, a son of Hugh and Catherine Metcalf Cook.
He was married to Loraine Byron on Aug. 15, 1942, in Yakima, Wash. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple.
He owned and operated a barber shop in Ogden.
During World War II he served with the Army in the European Theatre and played in the Army Band. He was a member of the Mountain Green LDS Ward.
He lived in Roy before moving to Mountain Green four years ago.
Surviving are his widow of Mountain Green; one son and two daughters, Danny Mack Cook, Miss Lisa Sheila Cook, both of Mountain Green; Mrs. Kristine Horspool, Ogden; one grandchild; one brother, Jay Cook, Los Angeles, Calif.

SANTA ROSA, Calif.---William F. McCrea, 62, of Santa Rosa, formerly of Ogden, died Tuesday after an extended illness.
Mr. McCrea was born Dec. 27, 1909, in Salt Lake City, a son of Judge William M. and Beatrice O’Connor McCrea.
He graduated from the University of Utah in 1933 where he was a class officer and member of the Beta Theta Pi.
He was a former reporter for The Salt Lake Telegram and Salt Lake Tribune.
He had been public relations director of the University of Utah and public relations director for the Amalgamated Sugar Co. in Ogden.
He was then purchasing director for Weber County in Ogden until retiring.
He moved to Santa Rosa from Ogden in July 1971.
Mr. McCrea was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Ogden.
He was a member and former president of the Weber Club in Ogden and member of the Ogden Golf and Country Club where he served three terms on the board of directors.
He was also a member of the Ogden Kiwanis Club and had served three terms on the board of directors.
He was a member of the Public Relations Society of America and was former president of the Utah Chapter. He was a member of the Industrial Editor’s Association.
He was married to Carol Barclay in Salt Lake City in 1931.
Surviving are his widow of Santa Rosa; two daughters, Mrs. Ray G. (Pom) Myers, San Jose, Calif.; Mrs. Blaine C. (Judy) Wilbur, Petaluma, Calif.; one son, Bruce B. McCrea, San Francisco, Calif.; eight grandchildren.
Also surviving is one sister, Mrs. Lawrence A. (Bea) Batsell, Whittier, Calif.
Funeral services will be held at the Evans and Early Mortuary, 574 E. 1st S., Salt Lake City, Saturday at 12 noon.

Mrs. Stanley was born May 21, 1888, in Claremore, Okla., a daughter of William and Georgia Bible Sullivan.
In 1911 she was married to Norman D. Stanley. He died June 1, 1949.
She was reared in Claremore, Okla. and had lived in Chicago, Ill., Gillette, Wyo., and Los Angeles, Calif. She moved to Ogden in 1948 and had been in Rawlins the past six months.
She was a member of the Episcopal Church.

TREMONTON---Mrs. Caroline Jeppesen Beck, 90, of Tremonton, died Tuesday in a Long Beach, Calif. Hospital of natural causes.
Mrs. Beck was born June 12, 1881, in Mantua, Utah, a daughter of Hans N. and Karen Marie Jeppesen Jeppesen.
She was married to Chris Beck on Oct. 30, 1901, in the Logan LDS Temple. He died Nov. 13, 1940.
They had lived in Mantua moved to Logan in 1911 and to Tremonton in 1913 where Mr. Beck operated a blacksmith shop.
She was a member of the Tremonton 1st LDS Ward and has been Relief Society class teacher and visiting teacher.
She had been MIA counselor in Mantua. She was a former religion class superintendent and Sunday school teacher.
Surviving are one son and four daughters, Afton W. Beck, Fallbrook, Calif.; Mrs. Dewayne (Ellen) Crompton, Tremonton; Mrs. Mabel Van Fleet, Ontario, Calif.; Mrs. Robert (Denna) LaMont, Mrs. Beverly Jo Persell, both of Long Beach, Calif.; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Matilda May Laws Pearson Hacker, 75, of 1879 Childs, died Tuesday in a local nursing home of natural causes.

She was married to Nels A. Pearson in 1920. He died in 1932. She was married to Albert W. Hacker on June 18, 1949, in Mountain Home, Idaho.
She had lived in West Weber and Thatcher, Utah, until 29 years of age until she moved to Malad, Idaho. She came to Ogden in 1925.
She was educated in Utah.
She was a member of the 3rd LDS Ward Relief Society and Women of the Moose, Chapter 134.
She was a retired Civil Service employee.
Surviving are her husband of Ogden; four daughters, Mrs. Alice J. Smith, Ogden; Mrs. M. L. (Anna) North, Kearns; Mrs. Donald (Doris) Haigh, Amherst, Ohio; Mrs. Leslie (Dora) Reed, Cisne, Ill.; 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Ruby Jane Schulke Mickelsen, 37, of 2015 W. 5950 S., died in the Weber Memorial Hospital.
She was in an automobile accident 7 years and four months ago in Reno, Nev., and had been in a coma since that time in hospitals in Reno, Salt Lake City and Roy.
Mrs. Mickelsen was born Dec. 28, 1934, in Neiafu Vavau, Tonga Islands, a daughter of Erich Ernest Arthur and Mele Longolongo Havelu Kaihau Schulke.

She was married to Maj. Richard Mickelsen on May 29, 1959, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Prior to her accident, she was a registered nurse.
She had lived in Tonga; Auckland, New Zealand, for nine years; Reno, four years; Bountiful, Mesa, Ariz. and Ogden.
She graduated from high school in Auckland, New Zealand, and graduated as a registered nurse from the Auckland Hospital.
She was a member of the Roy 3rd LDS Ward and was formerly president of the MIA in Reno and active in a Bountiful ward.
Surviving are her husband of Roy; three sons and two daughters, Richard A. Mickelsen, Alfred S. Mickelsen, Roy; Alfonzo S. Mickelsen, Tina L. Mickelsen, Brenda Mickelsen, all of Roy; her mother of Roy.

William Henry Thomas Jr., 85, of 2730 Brinker, died Wednesday afternoon in a local nursing home of causes incident to age.
Mr. Thomas was born Feb. 24, 1887 in Malad, Idaho, a son of William Henry and Ann Edith Reynolds Thomas.
He was reared and educated in Malad, attended Utah State Agricultureal College and graduated with honors from the LDS Business College in Salt Lake City.
On July 22, 1914, he was married to Mary Jeppsen in the Logan LDS Temple. She died March 8, 1959. He was married to Marie Cameron on Nov. 21, 1959, in the Logan Temple.
He started working for Beneficial Life Insurance Co. in 1926, retiring in 1971.
He was a charter member of the Malad Lions Club. He was a member and former president and secretary of the Utah Life Underwriters Asscociation, and was a member of the Beneficial Life Insurance Multi-Millionare Club.
He was a high priest in the 52nd LDS Ward and had served on the adult Aaronic Priesthood Committee in Idaho, he had served as ward and stake clerk, member of a bishopric high councils and stake boards.
Surviving are his widow of Ogdenl one son, Dr. William H. Thomas, III, Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.; four daughters, Mrs. Farrell A. Mr. Reeder was born Oct. 1, 1885, a son of George Balls and Carline Madsen Reeder.
On Oct. 3, 1906, he was married to Ada Mathias in the Salt Lake L.D.S. Temple.
He was reared in Box Elder County and attended Brigham Young College in Logan.
He taught school at Harper Ward and operated a farm in Corinne for 35 years.
He served as counselor in the bishopric of the Corinne LDS Ward, and had been Sunday School superintendent, genealogy committee member and temple worker. He was a high priest in the Brigham City 3rd Ward. From 1906 to 1907 he served an LDS Mission to England.
He had been a 4-H Club leader and was former president of the Box Elder Farm Bureau.

He was married to Bessie Wilcox in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in 1936.
He had been a school teacher in Davis County and had lived in Syracuse since 1936.

He was a member of the Syracuse 1st LDS Ward and was finance clerk, Sunday School teacher, high priest and Era director. He was a member of the Syracuse Lions Club.
During World War II he served as a captain in the field artillery.

ELWOOD---Donald Herald Buxton, 58, of Elwood, died Wednesday night in the LDS Hospital in Logan after a lingering illness.
Mr. Buxton was born July 14, 1913, in Riverside, Utah, a son of Fredrick William and Alice Ann Hadfield Buxton.
He was married to Wanda Bronson on Dec. 19, 1936, in Brigham City. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. She died Sept. 11, 1938. He was married to Elsie S. Larsen on Aug. 25, 1941 in Preston, Idaho.
He had lived in Tremonton and Evans Ward, Utah prior to moving to Elwood in 1948.
He had been a bus driver for the Box Elder County Board of Education for five years, and worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for two years. He had worked for the Sego Creamery in Tremonton for two years and was also a farmer and dairyman.
He was an elder in the Elwood LDS Ward and had served as Elder Quorum secretary and home teacher.
Surviving are his widow of Elwood; one daughter, Miss Cheryl Buxton, Elwood; one stepson, Otis Larsen, Tremonton; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Ardith Griffiths, Clarkston, Utah; one foster son, Charles Zimmerman, Alemeda, Calif.; eight stepgrandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; two brothers and one sister, Joseph F. Buxton, Vale, Ore.; Odeen Buxton, Mrs. Elton (Mary) Newton, both of Tremonton.

HEADLINE: Burns Claim Morgan Man After Blaze

MORGAN---George Conrad Smith, 80, of Morgan died Friday in the McKay Hospital following an accidental burn at his residence.
Chief Dale Peterson of the Morgan Fire Department, said Morgan firefighters answered a call on a grass fire at Mr. Smith’s home and found him lying on his back in the ditch that was being burned.
“Although no one knows for sure,” Chief Peterson added, “we believe Mr. Smith slipped and fell while burning the ditch bank.”
Mr. Smith was born Dec. 16, 1891, in Morgan to Hyrum and Clara Helner Smith.
He was married to Ethel Jones on Dec. 30, 1920, in Ogden. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
He was a member of the North Morgan LDS Ward, was a veteran of World War I and was a retired rancher.
Surviving are his widow; two daughters and three sons, Eldon Smith of Sagle, Idaho; Alfred Smith of Heber City, Keith Smith of Morgan, Mrs. Philip (Illa) Bremman of Layton, and Miss Avis Smith of Salt Lake City; 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; six brothers and two sisters Adrian Smith, Arnold Smith, Harvey Smith, Lewis Smith, Leslie Smith, Mrs. Roy (Etta) Morris and Mrs. Nessa Green, all of Morgan, and Raymond Smith of Mesa, Ariz.

She was married to Jasper J. Wood in October 1906 in Ogden. He died in 1959.
She was a lifelong resident of Ogden and had worked as a seamstress for Butler Clothing Co.
She was a member of the 5th LDS Ward and had served in the Primary presidency, as a Relief Society teacher and Primary teacher. She was an active member of the Golden Hours Center.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Jesse E. (Beverly) Hiatt, Ogden; Mrs. Claude L. (LaVon) Adams, Las Vegas, Nev.; seven grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers and one sister, John F. Purdy, Palo Alto, Calif.; Charles V. S. Earl Head, 79, of 3118 Madison, died Saturday in a local nursing home of natural causes.
Mr. Head was born Sept. 13, 1892 in Preston, Idaho, a son of Henry A. and Annie Spongberg Head.
He was married to Margaret Elizabeth Steers on March 27, 1917, in Logan. She died June 30, 1922. He was married to Alta Ann Steers on Oct. 4, 1922 in Ogden. They received endowments in the Salt Lake L.D.S. Temple on Feb. 22, 1927.
He was a retired barber and had owned and operated the OK Barber Shop.
He had lived in Ogden the past 50 years.
He was a member of the 9th L.D.S. Ward and was an elder and served in the Elders Quorum presidency and MIA presidency of the 3rd Ward. He had also been a home teacher. He was a member of the United Commercial Travelers Woodman of the World and Utah Barber’s Guild.
Surviving are his widow of Ogden; one son and two daughters, DeWain S. Head, Anaheim, Calif.; Mrs. Hal K. (Betty) Davis, Boise, Idaho; Mrs. Margaret Morris, Ogden; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are one brother and three sisters, Frank Head, Portland, Ore.; Mrs. Ina Connell, San Diego, Calif.; Mrs. Iris Clayton, Sacramento, Calif.; Mrs. Lenord (Mary) Hamp, Las Vegas, Nev.

She was an active member of the LDS Church and was Malad Stake Primary secretary, member of the Holbrook Ward Primary presidency, Relief Society secretary and visiting teacher.

He was married to Flora Beth Jones on April 20, 1950, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

He was a lifelong resident of Hooper and was educated in Hooper.

He was an aircraft mechanic at Hill Air Force Base and was also a farmer.

He had served in the Hooper 1st LDS Ward bishopric and had been MIA president. He served as a stake missionary and was one of the seven presidents of the Seventies. He had served as Sunday School president, home teacher and high priest group leader. He was a member of the Hooper 4th Ward.

He served as president and board member of the Hooper Farm Bureau.

Surviving are his widow of Hooper; four sons, Dr. Gary Orson Christensen, Salt Lake City; Ray Minor Christensen, Michael J. Christensen, Kelly David Christensen, all of Hooper; two daughters, Miss Elaine Christensen, Hooper; two grandchildren.

He was a member of the Kanesville 2nd LDS Ward.

He came to the United States from Rotterdam, Holland, in 1911. He was reared and educated in Weber County.

Surviving are his widow of Roy; three sons, Robert J. Borger, Sandy; Ray Borger, Brigham City; Steven D. Borger, Ogden; one daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Beverly) McLennan, Ogden; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. in the Myers Mortuary Chapel in Ogden, where friends may call Saturday from 2 p.m. until time of services.

HOOPER---Leland Ray Higley, 83, of 6218 W. 5600 S., died Friday, Feb. 7, 1986, in the McKay Dee Hospital of pneumonia.
He was born Aug. 20, 1902, in Hooper, a son of Franklin Spencer and Laura Jeammette Byington Higley.
He married Ruth Marie Smith, May 13, 1926 in Pocatello, Idaho.
He worked for Weber County as a heavy duty equipment operator and retired in 1967 after 24 years of service. He also worked at the Navy Base and Hill Air Force Base. He was a farmer.
He was a member of the Hooper LDS 1st Ward.
Surviving are his widow of Hooper, three sons and two daughters, Monte Ray Higley, Roosevelt; Gary Lee Higley, Don Smith Higley, and Mrs. Ralph (Elaine) Fowers, all of Hooper; Mrs. G. Scott (Betty Jean) Jackson, Ogden; 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; two step grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are three brothers and two sisters, Frank Higley, Roosevelt; Clarence Higley and George Higley, both of Hooper; Mabel Higley, Ogden; and Mrs. Harold (Laura) Clayton, Murray.
He was preceded in death by one sister, one brother and one grandson.
Services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Myers Mortuary Chapel in Roy with Bishop Joseph W. Allen officiating.
Friends may call at the mortuary Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from noon to 12:45 p.m.

Omer David Burnett

Omer David Burnett, 80, of 4761 Madison, died Friday, Sept. 26, 1986, at the McKay-Dee Hospital of pneumonia.
He was born Sept. 1, 1906, in Eden, a son of Matthew and Mary Roselthea Fuller Burnett.
He married VaNeta Beus on April 22, 1931, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
He was reared in Eden and graduated from Weber High School. He had also attended Weber College.
He had been employed as a plant operator for the Weber Conservation District, retiring in 1971.
He was a high priest in the Ogden 80th LDS Ward. He had served with his wife as a full time missionary in the Canada Toronto Mission from 1972 to 1973. He was an ordinance worker in the Ogden Temple. He and his wife served as stake missionaries for two years in Ogden Stake and also for two years in the Ogden East Stake.
Surviving are his widow of Ogden; three sons, Eldon Wayne Burnett, both of Ogden; Reed Beus Burnett, Fairbanks, Alaska; two daughters, Mrs. Robert G. (Joyce) Rasmussen, Bountiful; Mrs. David (Linda) Larson, North Ogden; 31 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving is one brother, Adrien Robert Burnett, Phoenix, Ariz.; four sisters, Mrs. Mac (Adele) McAuley, Long Beach, Calif.; Mrs. J. Page (Evelyn) Bowers, Springville; Mrs. George B. (VaLois) Cottrell, Redlands, Calif.; Mrs. Lloyd (Lois) Manker, Vancouver, Wash.
He was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.
Services will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Leavitt’s Chapel of Flowers Mortuary with Bishop O. Thomas Hansen of the Ogden 80th Ward officiating.
Family will meet friends at the mortuary Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m.
Interment will be in the Eden Cemetery.

Henry Pinney Johnston, 90, of 3040 Quincy, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 1986, at St. Benedict’s Hospital of complications following surgery.
He was born Jan. 3, 1896, in Hooper, a son of James and Ellen Evangeline Pinney Johnston.
He married Alta Clarinda Beus on Nov. 10, 1920, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She died March 21, 1982.
He was reared and educated in Hooper.
He worked at the Hooper Sugar Factory from 1919 to 1924. Hen then worked for the OUR&D Railroad from 1924 to 1964, retiring after 40 years of service.
He was a member of the Ogden 17th LDS Ward where he had served as chairman of the genealogy committee. He served an LDS mission to the Central States from 1917 to 1919. He served in the Hooper Ward elders quorum presidency from 1919 to 1923 and as secretary of the missionary committee from 1919 to 1926. He and his wife served a stake mission for the Mt. Ogden Stake in 1955.
In the past he had participated in wrestling, boxing, horse shoes, racing, pole vaulting, baseball, and had played jew’s harp in entertainment groups.
He had been an active member of the health spa for the past 15 years and had achieved a swimming distance of 37 laps. At age 90 he maintained a 10 lap distance three times a week.
Surviving are one son, Lynne B. Johnston, Mesa, Ariz.; three daughters, Mrs. Carl D. (Ruth) Hadley, Ogden; Mrs. Aaga V. (Nola) Nagel, Mrs. C. William (Beverly) Session, both of Roy; 21 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and one great great-granddaughter.
Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Brigham (Afton) Stevens, Blanding; and Mrs. Lionel (Mavis) Gibby, Slaterville.
He was preceded in death by one son, one grandson, three great-grandchildren, five brothers and three sisters.
Services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Leavitt’s Chapel of Flowers Mortuary with Bishop Carl Ray Wiese of the Ogden 17th Ward officiating.
Friends may call at the mortuary Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m.
Interment will be in the Hooper Cemetery.


POTOKAR, Elmer

RIVERDALE – Elmer Potokar, 66, of 4375 Weber River Drive, No. 7, died Friday, Nov. 20, 1987, at the McKay-Dee Hospital of a heart attack.

He was born Jan. 10, 1921, in Chicago, Ill., to Joseph and Rose "Roja" Brajer Potokar.

He married Bertha King, Nov.27, 1945, in Roy.

He was reared and educated in Chicago, Ill., and moved to Utah from Chicago in 1946.

During World War II, he served with the 449th Army Air Corps stationed in Northern France and Central Europe. He had received numerous Army Air Corps Meritorious Service Ribbons, the War Combat Ribbon, the Purple Heart in Europe and other Air Force commendation medals. He was awarded Four Bronze Battle Stars. He worked for Northrup Aircraft and for Radio Plane Corporation, both in Van Nuys, Calif.

He was an industrial engineer and worked for Boeing Company as a tool planner engineer, retiring after 15 years of service.

He was very active in the Scouting in Van Nuys, Calif., and was also active in Van Nuys community and volunteer work. He was an avid electronic repairman. He was a past member of the American Legion in Chicago and of Roy Post No. 139. He was a past member of the Advisory Board Weber County Senior Citizens. He was a member of the LDSChurch.

Surviving are his widow of Riverdale; four sons, E. Alan Potokar, North Ogden; Randy K. Potokar, Michael D. Potokar, both of Riverdale; Ricky D. Potokar, Roy; and nine grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Rose Schmitt, Pacific Palisades, Calif.; and June Robinson, Bellywood, Ill.

He was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Leavitt’s Chapel of Flowers Mortuary, 836 36th St., with Kenneth Searcy officiating. Friends may call at the mortuary Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Interment will be in Leavitt’s Aultorest Memorial Park. Military honors will be accorded by the VFW Honor Guard.

He married Mary Matilda Proudman, Oct. 4, 1930 in Ripley, N.Y. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
He was an active member of the LDS Church, serving as a bishop.
He was a metallurgist research scientists for the U.S. Bureau of Mines in Albany, Ore. He worked on space age metal which allowed jets to fly,
nuclear submarines to sail and space crafts to hover.
He was author and co-author on many reports and papers on zirconium, titanium, and carbide.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Surviving are his wife of Kaysville, two sons and one daughter, Donald Robert Adams, Wilford Lewis Adams, both of Kaysville; Mrs. DeVon
(Lou Jean Bell) Slack, Wilsonville, Ore.; 14 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are one brother and one sister, William Adams, Salt Lake City; Lou Jean Osborne, Simi Valley, Calif.
He was preceded in death by one brother, one sister and a daughter.
Graveside services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at the Kaysville City Cemetery.

She married William Albert Coop, Oct. 20, 1932, in Ogden. Mr. Coop died March 16, 1966.
She moved to Ogden with her parents at the age of two. She was reared and educated in Ogden and was a graduate of Steven’s Henager
College of Business.
Before her marriage she was employed as a secretary for the Wattis-Kimball Automobile Agency in Ogden.
She was a former member of the Ogden Golf and Country Club and a member of the Retail Grocers Auxiliary.
She was a member of the LDS Church.
Surviving are one son, Dr. William Albert Coop, Sacramento, Calif.; three daughters, Mrs. Charles R. (Peggy) Eckstein, Kaysville;
Mrs. Loel W. (Kathleen) Dean, Ogden; Mrs. Brent M. (Susan) Koldewyn, Bountiful; 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Almeda Coop and Mrs. Kay Ogden, both of Ogden.

PLAIN CITY – Mildred Crystella England Hart Robins, 95, of 3319 W. North Plain City Road, died Monday, June 13, 1988, at her home of causes incident to age.
She was born June 2, 1893, in Plain City, a daughter of William, Jr., and Ismilda Thueson Dorcheus England.
She married Charles William Hart on April 29, 1914, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He died Oct. 1, 1927.
She married Joseph Ira Robins on Nov. 6, 1945, in Ogden. He died Nov 28, 1975.
She lived most of her life in Plain City. She attended Weber County Schools and the Weber Academy.
She was a member of the Plain City 2nd LDS Ward. At the age of 11 she served as Primary organist and for most of her life she was the ward and Primary organist.
She served in many other church positions and was a visiting teacher for many years.
She worked at the Plain City, North Ogden, and Roy canning factories. She drove a school bus in Plain City and had worked as a packer at Defense Depot Ogden.
Surviving are four sons, Eldon Hart, Rexburg, Idaho; Russell Hart, Roy; Karl Hart, Camero, Calif.; Paul Hart, Ogden; 21 grandchildren and 127 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are four brothers and one sister, Clyde England, Ogden; Chester England, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Creed (Leah) East, Roy.
Services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 North Washington Blvd., with Bishop Jay Stewart of the Plain City 2nd Ward officiating.

He was a member of the Roy 3rd LDS Ward. He was a High Priest and a temple worker.
He was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Navy.
He was a railroad conductor at Hill Air Force Base, and an avid fisherman and hunter.
Surviving are his widow of Roy, and one son, James R. Wilson, Long Beach, Calif.
Also surviving are one brother and five sisters, L.D. Wilson, Kansas City, Mo.; Mrs. Leslie (Jessie) Olsen, Burley, Idaho; Mrs. Armond (Rowena) Hall and Mrs. Otis (Gwen) Hall, both of Inkom, Idaho; Mrs. Virgil (Lula) Hodson, Clearfield; Mrs. Woody (Claire) Williams, Salt Lake City.
He was preceded in death by one son and one brother.

She married Fredrick Cliften on March 9, 1929. He died Nov. 3, 1963.
She lived most of her life in the Ogden area, growing up in Burch Creek.
She was a member of the Ogden LDS 34th Ward. She was active in the Relief Society for many years and an active temple worker.
She had worked for the Railway Mail Service prior to her marriage.
Mrs. Cliften enjoyed sewing, reading, handiwork, and her family.
Surviving are one daughter and two sons, Mrs. Boyd (Joan) Carpenter of Pocatello, Idaho; Thomas Cliften of Salem, Idaho; Robert Cliften of Plain City, Utah; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, June Tucker, a granddaughter, four sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Leavitt’s Chapel of Flowers Mortuary, 836-36th St.

She married Tom Neil Gibson, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
She lived in Hooper and Preston, Idaho, moving with her family to California where she was reared and educated and resided until her death.
She was a member of the LDS Church. She loved the out of doors, camping, handicraft, home decorating, and gardening, especially her beautiful roses.
She had a great love for children, and lovingly tended several in her home.
Surviving are her husband, Tom; one daughter, Shanna, which was the light of her life, both of California; her mother and step-father, Flora and Mirland Albiston, Quartszite, AZ; also surviving are one brother and five sisters, Harold R. Jones, Gardinerville, Nevada; Mrs. Wayne (Beth) Bingham, Hooper; Mrs. Val (Donna) Beus, Clinton; Mrs. Michael (Melba) McCowan, Riverside, Calif.; Mrs. Larry (Sandia) Shortt, Walkerton, Indiana.
She was preceded in death by her father and two infant children.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday in Long Beach, California.
