Back From Service---J.R. Fowles, who was at the University of Utah in the students’ army training corps last fall, returned to his home in Hooper yesterday. Private Fowles has been confined to the Fort Douglas Hospital for influenza. For two weeks he was very low and at one time he was reported dead.

Home from Navy---G. Byron Fernlund, son of Dr. and Mrs. A. Fernlund of 646 Washington Avenue has returned to this city from Goat Island where for some time he has been in the service of his country. The young man has numerous friends in Ogden who will welcome him.

Mr. and Mrs. William Rice Kimball are anticipating a happy Christmas this year, for their son, Captain William Rice Kimball, Jr., with his wife, will be here to spend it with them at their home in Valhalla, Ogden canyon. Capt. Kimball recently returned from serving with the U.S. army artillery in the Pacific. He was met by Mrs. Kimball, Jr. in San Francisco and they have been spending the past two weeks at San Ysidro ranch, at Montecito, Calif., near Santa Barbara. Capt. and Mrs. Kimball are expected here this week and will remain for an indefinite visit.

Back home...are Mr. and Mrs. Jim Scowcroft with their daughter, Odette, after a visit in the east. They were away about a month and spent some time with their son, Cadet Brent Scowcroft, who is attending the U.S. military academy at West Point N.Y., and with their son-in-law and daughter, Major and Mrs. Robert H. Hinckley, Jr., in Washington D.C. The Scowcrofts also attended the Army and Navy football game in Philadelphia, Cadet Scowcroft is expected home Dec. 22, for the holidays.

Arriving home this week to greet their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Hoggan, after many months duty in the navy, were Lt. Commander Howard R. Hoggan and Marvin Hoggan, AMM 3/c U.S.N.
Commander Hoggan disembarked at San Francisco from New Hebrides, where he has been serving the last 19 months. He joined his brother, Marvin at Alameda, Calif. He had been stationed on the U.S.S. Pennsylvania for 23 months.

Headline: 55 Corpsmen Recognized For Valley Job

MILITARY SPRINGS---Some 55 Weber Basin Job Corpsmen received certificates of appreciation today for their efforts in constructing a Forest Service warehouse at the Huntsville Ranger Station

Ogden District Ranger Frank McElwain awarded the certificates and cited the corpsmen for maintaining a high quality of construction on the new facility.

The warehouse, which required about one year to complete, houses an office and five bays that include work shops, storage space, room for vehicles and indoor work areas.

Job corpsmen training in a variety of skills ranging from masonry to plumbing and electrical work participated on the project.

Also receiving certificates of appreciation were foremen and supervisors who provided adult leadership and skills training during the construction of the warehouse.
