OBITUARY OF
JAMES AGEE SMITH
(1787 - 1874)

James Agee Smith, son of Thomas Smith and Leah or Lear Agee was born December 6, 1787 in Sullivan County, Tennessee.

He was baptized and confirmed a member of the Mormon Church in 1841 in Gibson County, Tennessee.

He moved to Nauvoo, Illinois in 1842. Migrated to Utah with a company of Saints in one of the earliest companies. He had married Margaret Love, daughter of William Love and Rachel McCool.

They settled at Provo, Utah. Here he served on the High Council for a number of years. He was called by the church authorities to colonize Southern Utah, near St. George, a town called Washington.

They reared a family of seven. Margaret, his wife, died 21 March 1865, after which he moved to Pahreah with his son, Thomas Washington Smith - in Pahreah, Kane, Utah.

He died 20 December 1874 of incidents caused by old age, at the home of his son, Thomas Washington Smith in Pahreah, Kane County, Utah, having been a faithful husband, a loving father, and a true Latter-day Saint.
