James Abraham was born in Abersychan, South Wales, Nov., 1828, and baptized into the Later-Day Saints in 1848, by John A. Jones. He was ordained an Elder in 1850 and served a mission in his native land for two years. In Nov. 1852 James married Martha Phelps, who was born in Garndiffith, Monmouthshire, Wales, June 28, 1830, and joined the LDS Church in 1848.

James, Martha and their two children emigrated to Utah in 1860, while on the ocean voyage small pox prevailed and many of the passengers died and were buried at sea. After arriving in America, James worked in Pennsylvania for two years to earn the money to pay for their fare to Utah. The came to Utah in 1861 and were sent to Lehi. They lived in Lehi and Provo Valley until 1865, and then moved to Kanosh.

James served as a Priest, Elder, Seventy, High Priest and a member of the Millard Stake High Council for many years. He was also a home missionary in Millard Stake for years. He was ordained a Patriarch by Apostle Francis M. Lyman.

This noble couple were parents of thirteen children, eight of these children grew to adulthood. They are: Emily Rea, Mary Jane Ross, Naomi Reynolds, Agnes George, Abinadi, Annie Penny, James and Martha George.

James passed away March 22, 1901, and Martha died Nov. 3, 1916. Both are buried in the Kanosh Cemetery.
