Name: Town - Location: WinterQuarters/WilfredPeters/ Here is two photos of the Winter Quarters mine fans many years after the closing of the mine. Have you heard stories about the Winter Quarters mine being haunted? - You can read one version of the story on The Haunted Winter Quarters Mine webpage from Troy Taylor. Then you can read "The Rest of the Story" by Wilfred Peters. In 1951 Reino Erkkila and I experienced this experience. We were back from high school one October and went hunting and exploring up Winter Quarters. We had left quite late in the day and decided to go up to the head waters since there was where the BIG BUCKs were so by the time we got back down the canyon it was dark, cold and windy. We could hear the noise he (Troy Taylor) described. It was kind of low talking that turned to a moaning as we got closer. We also thought it was some one camping in the canyon. We lucked out because it didn't stop and when we got to the Winter Quarters old mine fan we could see the source of the noise. Even then it kind of gave us shivers. The cold had contracted the fan allowing it to move a bit and the wind moved the rotor ever so little then as it moved the scraping metal would amplify through that bellows. So here is your Ghost Photos. I took it a number of years later. |
