Most of the towns in Carbon County had elementary schools, however, individuals wanting to go on to High School were faced with an education dilemma. Carbon High established in 1911, in Price was hard pressed to provide boarding and/or commuting arrangements for students from the other Carbon communities. Parents and students searched for educational alternatives, one option was a boarding school, Wasatch Academy, established in Mount Pleasant by the Presbyterian Church in 1875 which had a good reputation in boarding and educating students. These photos, while not totally inclusive, show the majority of students from Carbon County during the 1920's through the 1960's who attended Wasatch Academy. By the late 1960's the outlying coal town family populations had vanished, students had their own cars, buses were available and the need to attend a boarding school had passed.
