Christopher Columbus Ligon
Nigton, Texas
The information for this family group sheet was compiled by Susanne Waller and from Ligon family information provided by Elijah Thomas, Jim Ligon and Lee Ligon. In the 1870 US Federal Census for Trinity County, Texas, Christopher is shown with Candace Tullos household, age 9, born in Texas, though in later census, Christopher states his state of birth was in Louisiana. He was a minister and founder of Ligon Chapel, which to this day is known as Ligon Chapel in Nigton, Texas. Christopher Ligon performed many of the early marriages in Trinity County and considered one of the founders of the Nigton Community. Rev. Ligon received a Houston Pre-emption land grant of 125 acres. R.M. Mark and S. Mark "two credible resident citizens of said county, to me well known, who being by me duly sworn on thier oaths say that C.C. Ligon actually settled upon and cultivated, as a Homestead, the land surveyed for him on the 10 day of April, 1900." The application for this land grant was started in 1876.
Robert L. "York" Ligon is brother to Christopher C. Ligon.
