Winniefird Watts, 82, of Denver  City, passed away Friday, April 16, 2010, in Denver  City.    Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 19, in the Terry County Cemetery with Brother Skip Rodgers officiating.    Services are under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home of Denver City.

Winniefird was born July 23, 1927, in Cottle County, Texas to Robert Fird and Winnie Wilson Mobley.  She married Victor Watts December 7, 1947, in Wellman.

Winniefird was a housewife who also helped her husband operate the family farm.  She and her husband lived in the Wellman community until they moved to Brownfield in 1969. They retired from active farming in 1972. Winniefird loved working in the backyard in her Brownfield home and enjoyed dancing and fishing with her husband. Barbecue and steaks were her favorite.  

In 2002 she moved to Denver City. Winniefird lived for her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member the Wellman Baptist Church and a 40-year member of Eastern Star.   She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor Watts, in 1998.

She is survived by two daughters, Vicki Thompson and husband, Don, of Yukon, Okla., and Patti Lindsey and husband, Woody, of Denver City; three grandchildren, Jonna Marion and husband, Brian, of Denver City, Russell Thompson and wife, Tracy, of Cashion, Okla., and Elizabeth Thompson of Edmond, Okla.; five great-grandchildren, Kodi Blair Marion, Kurt Marion, Spencer Marion, Adrian Thompson and Brody Thompson.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society 3411 73rd Street, Lubbock, TX  79423-1101; Texas Society for the Prevention of Blindness, Inc. 515 West Beauregard Ave., San Angelo, TX  76903-6360 and the Yoakum County Child Welfare Board, Box 202, Denver City, Texas  79323.    Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, April 18 at the Ratliff Funeral Home Chapel.
