Obituary for Rita Torrez

Rita N. Torrez, 87 of Brownfield died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2007, in Brownfield. A Rosary was prayed Friday, Aug. 31, at Mark A. Jones Memorial Chapel in Brownfield. A Funeral Mass was held Saturday, Sept. 1, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with Father Gerald Leatham officiating. Burial was in Brownfield Cemetery.

Mrs. Torrez was born on March 16, 1920, to Nicolhas and Natividad Navarette in Sweetwater. On March 26, 1936, she married Nicanor Torrez Sr. in Sweetwater. He preceded her in death on Oct. 24, 1984.

She is survived by three sons---Nicanor of Brownfield, Alfredo of Warren, Minn. and Christopher of Dallas.

Mrs. Torrez is also survived by seven daughters---Hortencia Garza of Sunnyside, Wash, Ninfa Martinez of Wimauma, Fla, Rita Riojas, Estella Torrez, Yolanda Torrez, and Santos Martinez, all of Brownfield, and Oralia Coronado of Clewiston, Fla.

She is also survived by one brother--Conrado Castro of Brownfield. She is also survived by 42 grandchildren, 78 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Torrez was preceded in death by her husband---Nicantor, Sr., one daughter---Bertha; two brothers---Felix and Carpio; three sisters---Juanita Jimenez, Tornasa Rivera and Elifonso Navarette and her parents---Nicolhas and Natividad Navarette.
