Services for Viola K. Smith, 90, of Friendswood, formerly of Brownfield, were held Saturday, Dec. 30, in the First Christian Church in Brownfield with Rev. Michael Arntt officiating.    Burial was in Terry County Memorial Cemetery.   

Mrs. Smith died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2006, in Houston.    She was born Jan. 27, 1916, in Raub, N.D. to George and Mary Perdue and was married to Lewis T. Simmonds on July 30, 1930 in San Antonio. He died on Jan. 10, 1973.   She was married to David D. Smith on Jan. 4, 1982 in Brownfield. He died on April 18, 1994.

Mrs. Smith moved to Brownfield in 1944. She was a Registered Nurse and was employed by the South Plains Health Department. She was later employed as a nurse by the Brownfield School District where she retired.

She was a Past Worthy Matron for the Brownfield Order of the Eastern Star. She was also the Past President of the State Fireman's Auxiliary and a charter member of the Terry County Amateur Radio Club.    She was issued a radio call sign of W5FBM by the FCC.    She volunteered in many organizations through-out her life.

Mrs. Smith was also a member of the First Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by three brothers---Thomas F. Perdue, Edward M. Perdue and George Perdue and two sisters---Agnes M. Cushing and Rita A. Peterson.

Mrs. Smith is survived by three sons---Lewis "Rudy" Simmonds and his wife---Ada of Friendswood, Don Simmonds and his wife---Brenda of Fort Worth and Larry Simmonds and his wife---Sylvia of Magnolia.

She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
