Services for Juanda Ruth Smith, 79, of Brownfield, will be
held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, in the Brownfield
First Baptist Church with Rev. Jess Smith, Jr. and
Rev. Randy Land officiating. Burial will be in Terry
County Memorial Cemetery.
She died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2006, in Lubbock. Mrs. Smith
was born May 8, 1927, in Abilene to A.W. and Mallie Turner and
was married to J. E. Smith on Dec. 9, 1945 in Brownfield. He
died on May 28, 1999.
She married Edwin Helms in 2000. He died in 2005. Juanda was
also preceded in death by a brother, K. Lanse Turner. She was a
member of First Baptist Church and moved to Brownfield in 1937
with her family. She graduated from Brownfield High School in 1944
and attended Baylor University.
Mrs. Smith is survived by three sons---Jess Jr. and his wife---Becky
of Huntsville, Ala., David and his wife---Gay Lynn of Central Asia and
Jonathan of Los Angeles, Calif. She is also survived by three
grandsons
---Jesse Joshua Smith and his wife--Kelly, Nathanael Lyth Smith and his
wife--Emily and Michael David Smith and one granddaughter---Sarah
Lynn Smith, and by three great-grandsons--Clay, Thomas and
Henry Joshua Smith and two stepdaughters---Dinah Clark and Sue
Soren of California.
Pallbearers will be Harry Stice, Leon Pope, Eric Caswell, Dan Woodson,
Carey White and J Rowden. Memorials may be made to the Providence
Baptist Church Building Fund in Huntsville, Ala. or the Alzheimer's Assoc.
