Obituary for
Edward T. Smith

Services for Edward T. Smith, 95, of Brownfield, were at
10 a.m. Saturday,
November 12, 2005, at Resthaven Funeral Home in Lubbock with Revs. Glen C.
Smith, Ken Horn and Robert Highley officiating. Graveside services
followed
at Resthaven Memorial Park in Lubbock, under the direction of Resthaven
Funeral Home of Lubbock. He died peacefully at his daughter's
home on
Wednesday, November 9, 2005.
He was born Dec. 9, 1909, in Oklaunion, TX., and graduated from Hereford, TX
High School and attended Texas Technological College. He married
Naomi E.
Bearden on Feb. 1, 1943, in Lovington, NM. She preceded him in death
on
July 24, 2001.
He retired in 1961 after 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, then pursued a diverse
career: he worked for the US Postal Service, was active in real estate
sales and
then retired from the State of New Mexico after 10 years as a real estate tax
appraiser. He and his wife moved back to Brownfield in 1976.
He was very active
in the Texas Baptist Camp Builders and Faith Chapel Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Edwina B. Smith of Lubbock; a son, Harold T.
of
Carmel, IN; one brother, Glen, of Sundown, TX., three sisters, Dorothy Vogelsang
of Edwards, MO., Evelyn Gault of Albuquerque, NM, and Billie Zoe McCravey of
Paris, TX; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was
preceded in
death by two sisters, one brother and a grandson, Marine Sgt Brian G. Smith.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 5:30 to 8:00
p.m.
