services for Modena Simpson, 87, of Denison and formerly of
Brownfield, were held Friday, Feb. 6 at Terry County Memorial
Cemetery with Rev. Steve Carter officiating. Burial will be under
the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home. Modena Simpson died peacefully in her sleep at home in Denison on Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009. She was born on Dec. 13, 1921, to Oliver Oldham and Bertha Mills Oldham in Plainview. She was a member of Parkside Baptist Church. She attended school in Littlefield, where she met and married the love of her life,R. L. (Simp) Simpson on Oct. 10, 1938. Modena and Simp lived in Sundown, Levelland and Houston before moving to Brownfield in 1957. Modena worked for Sexton Draperies and Wal-Mart while raising their four children. The couple were active in Immanual Baptist Church. Modena worked with the youth, taught Sunday school and was active in the women's group at the church. After Simp died in 1984, Modena completed their retirement home in Alvarado and lived in Levelland and Brownfield before moving to Denison. Modena will be missed by her sons and daughters-in-law - Doyle and Emily Simpson of Georgetown; Bob and Sherry Simpson of Brownfield; Doug and Jan Simpson of Denison; daughter and son-in-law - Sandi and Chris Buck of Hebron, Ky.; 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister - Theresa Dillard of Belen, N.M. She was preceded in death by her husband, R L (Simp) Simpson, parents - Oliver and Bertha Oldham and brothers - John, Marlin, Wayland and Noble Oldham.
