Services for Harold O'Neill Simms, 84, of Brownfield will be 2:30 PM  Friday, February 23, 2007, at Brownfield First United Methodist Church with Rev. Charles Addington officiating.  Interment will be in Terry County Memorial Cemetery with full Military Service of 21 Gun Salute, Taps and Flag, provided by an Honor Guard from Cannon Air Force Base.  Services will be under the Direction of Brownfield Funeral Home.

Harold passed away February 20, 2007, in Brownfield.   He was born October 29, 1922, In Brownfield, to Raymond A. and Idahlia Hunter Simms.  Harold graduated from Brownfield High School in 1940 and enrolled in Texas A & M University.

He was a U. S. Army/Air Force Veteran.  During his 30 missions, Harold received the Distinguished Flying Cross with Cluster, Air Medal, Unit Citations, Victory Medal and European Theater Ribbon.  He was recalled to active duty for the Korean Conflict in 1951.  He participated in the Reserve until retirement as a Lt. Colonel.  He married Charlotte Dial on September 28, 1946. 

Harold received a BA in Business Administration from Southern Methodist University, graduating in 1948.  Harold accepted a position with Stanolind Oil Co. in their Brownfield District Office.  He took a disability retirement in 1978. 

 He is a member of  First United Methodist and various Air Force Societies.   He also holds memberships in Sons of the Republic of Texas, The Sons of Confederate Veterans, National Sojourners, ROA, past member of The Texas Tech Chancellor's Council and the Lubbock Club.  He was active in the Democratic party at County and State levels.  He was a 32nd Degree Mason with Brownfield Lodge #903.  He owned and operated farm land near his home place in Gomez that is still in the family.

Pallbearers will be Chick Clark, Curtis Campbell, Monty Henson, Don Robertson, Bill McGowan and Dwayne Pruitt; Honorary Pallbearers will be Jake Geron, Pete Harris, Tommy Hicks, L. J. Richardson, Bobby Lewis, and Bill Swaringen.

Harold is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Charlotte, of Brownfield; a sister, Mary Ray Douglass of Dallas; special friend, Patsy Nicholson Campbell of Brownfield; two nieces; Kinsmen, Roy L. & Torey Hunter of Amarillo, Mildred Adams, Tom and Marilyn Adams, Beth and Jake Geron, and Irene "Sugar"  Rieck all of Brownfield; Oklahoma cousins who are descendents of great grandparents Elijah & Eunice Moore Sims/Simms; a host of brotherhood friends and traveling companions from his Air Force Military days.

Memorials may be made to Brownfield XYZ Club or charity of one's choice.
