Memorial services for Charles Russell Shrimpton, 61, of Brownfield will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 13, 2011, at Brownfield First Baptist Chapel with Dr. Carl Moman officiating.

Russell passed away Sunday, January 9, 2011, at his home in Brownfield. He was born in Brownfield to Charles Edward and Patricia Parr Shrimpton on October 17, 1949. As a child he moved with his family to Bowie and later to California. After returning to Brownfield he attended both Brownfield and New Home schools, graduating from Brownfield High School in 1967.

Russell married Jetta Marie Rae in 1967. Their union was blessed with a son, David Shawn, and daughter, Tiffany Dawn. He later married Peggy Proctor in 1983.

During his life he had several occupations. He was a grocery store stocker and highway department field man, to name a few, before finding his career in the telecommunications industry, where he rose in rank from draftsman to head of his department. He retired in 2000 after 28 years.

Russell loved sports and always had a game on. He especially liked golf, and spent many happy hours on the golf course with friends.

He was competitive and always liked a challenge. The last years of his life proved to be the biggest challenge of all. Through all his pain and suffering he remained positive and accepted each new obstacle with the commitment that he would win.

Russell is preceded in death by his father, Charles Edward Shrimpton; and a brother, Robert Syl Shrimpton.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Peggy, of Brownfield; his mother, Pat Irwin and husband Clarence of Lubbock; his son, Shawn David Shrimpton and wife Dana of Springdale, Ark.; his daughter, Tiffany Dawn Shelton and husband Chuck of Springdale, Ark.; two step-daughters, Laura Ann Bowman and husband Britt of Linden, Va., and Wendee Lea Bailey and husband Donald of Murchison; 10 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
