Rivera, 91, of Brownfield died Sunday, April 1, 2007, in Lubbock.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 5, at St. Anthony's
Catholic Church with Father Gerald Leatham officiating. Burial
will follow at the Terry County Memorial Cemetery. Carmel was born on July 16, 1915, to Cresencio and Aniseta Banda in Yorktown. She married Carlos Rivera on Oct. 15, 1935 in Yorktown. They moved to Brownfield in 1965. He preceded her in death on Feb. 14, 1988. In 1995 she moved to Woodrow to live with her daughter, Essie. She is also preceded in death by her parents, two children; Carolina and Gilbert Rivera, and her siblings; Jose Angel Banda, Bentura Banda, Martin Olvera, and Margaret Rossett. She is survived by five daughters; Matilda Pena and her husband, Gilbert, of Corpus Christi, Mary Moreno and her husband, Raymond, of Lubbock, Esabel Galvan of Odessa, Essie Elizardo and her husband, Amador, of Woodrow, and Emily Smith and her husband, Robert, of Kempner. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, two sisters; Marcelina Moreno of Santa Fe, Texas, and Pauline Compeon and her husband Ynes of Victoria and one brother; Thomas Banda and his wife, Connie, of Cuero.
