| Ruth Purtell,
93, of Boone, Iowa and formerly of Brownfield passed away on
Tuesday, March 24, 2009, in Boone. Services will be at 10 a.m.
Monday, March 30, 2009, at Brownfield First United Methodist Church
with Rev. Beverly Titus officiating. Interment will follow at Terry
County Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Brownfield Funeral
Home. The family will receive friends from 3-5 pm Sunday
at the funeral home. Ruth was born on June 16, 1915, in Taylor County to Newton and Madge Young. She moved to Brownfield with her family as a small child where she attended schools and graduated from Brownfield High School in 1933. She then received her degree from Draughon's Business College. Ruth married Kenneth Purtell on Oct. 26, 1938, in Lubbock. She was active in her children's lives and her church. She was a member of the Eastern Star, First United Methodist Church in Brownfield and many bridge clubs. She was preceded in death by her son, Gene Purtell in 1996; her brother, T.C. Young and two sisters, Tillie Trammell and Faye Hulse. Ruth is survived by her husband, Kenneth Purtell of Brownfield; her son, Jim Purtell and his wife Edna of Sanford, N.C.; her daughter, Hazel Purtell and her husband Bob North of Pilot Mound, Iowa; seven grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and her sister, Ethel Wilson of Abilene. The family suggests memorials to the American Heart Association or United cerebral Palsy, 1660 L Street, NW, Suite 700, Washington, DC 20036. Brownfield News |
