Merritt, 88, died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, at her home in
Brownfield. Graveside Services were held
Wednesday, Jan. 16, at Restland Cemetery. Mrs. Merritt was born on Sept. 22, 1919, to the late Guvvy Van Ross and Mattie Bell Bird Ross in Flat. She graduated from Crawford High School as the Valedictorian of her class. She married George Truett Merritt on Nov. 14, 1942, in Gatesville and they lived in Odessa before moving to Monahans where they lived for 16 years. The family moved to Brownfield in 1971. Mrs. Merritt worked for many years as a teller for Brownfield State Bank before retiring in the early '90's. She was a member of the Brownfield Church of Christ and devoted many hours to World Bible School Program. Reading and writing were long time passions. She was preceded in death by her husband; one sister--Ruby Williams and a brother--Ted Ross. She is survived by her son--David Lloyd Merritt of Ft. Worth, one daughter--Chris Merritt of Austin and by three grandchildren--Brandi, Megan, and Michael and one great grandson--Jacob. Brownfield News |
