| Lela Z. Merritt,
91, of Brownfield died Thursday, May 17, in Lubbock. Services were
held, Saturday, May 19, 2007, at the Brownfield Funeral Home
Memorial Chapel. Mrs. Merritt was born on Sept. 27, 1915, in Weatherford, to Harvey and Mary Durham. She moved with her family to Brownfield in 1924. She attended school in the Harmony Community. She married Joe A. Merritt on March 8, 1948, in Brownfield. He preceded her in death on Nov. 23, 1988. She was a member of the Church of the Living God. Mrs. Merritt is
survived by her daughter, Carolyn Rice and her husband, Roy, of
Stamford. She is also survived by two granddaughters:
Crystal Melcher and her husband, Jeff, of Lubbock, and Deidra Baker
and her husband, Chance, of Wellman and by six great grandchildren;
Desiree Melcher, Brittany Melcher, Ryan Melcher, Tristan Baker,
Harlee Baker, and Dylan Baker.
