Lira, 73, passed away at his residence in Brownfield on June 9,
2011. Funeral mass was at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 11, at
St. Anthony's Catholic Church with father Gerald Leatham
officiating. Graveside services followed at Brownfield Cemetery. Mr. Lira was born January 2, 1938, to Eusebio and Adelaida Lira in York Town. He moved to Brownfield in 1961 from York Town. His family remembers how he loved to go rattlesnake hunting. Juan loved to go to flea markets, go camping and enjoy the outdoors. His family will miss the wonderful family gathering and his pranks. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his companion, Ramona Contreras of Brownfield; two sons, Juan Martin Lira of Brownfield and Gabriel David Lira of San Antonio; nine daughters, Yolanda Ramos and husband Antonio and Juanita Davila and husband Andres, both of San Antonio; Syliva Lira Avalos and husband Juan, Antonia Hernandez and husband David, Irma Ramirez and husband George and Patricia Chacon and husband Hermengildo, all of Brownfield, Stella Martin and husband Don of Pflugerville, Alicia Kirkpatrick and husband Roger of Pine Bluff, Ark., and Adelaida Infante and husband Emilo of Whitney; one brother, Tito Lira of Orange Grove and one sister, Jacinta Pesina of Delano, Calif. He also leaves behind 36 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by both parents; his wife, Maria Merejilda Lira in 1983 and one brother, Pedro Lira. Brownfield News
