Lewis, 90, of Brownfield passed away Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2009, in
Tulsa, Okla. Graveside services were held Friday, Aug. 28, at Terry
County Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Jerry Payne officiating. Evelyn was born on March 12, 1919, in Slocum to the late Gilbert Roy and Cora Day. She moved with her family to Brownfield in 1924 graduating from Union High School and continuing her education at Texas Tech. She worked as a
bookkeeper for J.B. Knight Hardware and Furniture for many years.
Evelyn married R.L. Lewis on Dec. 2, 1944, in Brownfield. Together
they farmed throughout Terry County. He preceded
her in death on Nov. 29, 1981. She was also preceded in death by her
son, Randy Lewis in 1990. |
