Alta L. Kornegay, 85, of Brownfield were held Tuesday, May 5, at
Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Carter officiating. Burial
followed at the Terry County Memorial Cemetery under the direction
of Brownfield Funeral Home. Alta passed away Sunday, May 3, 2009, in Brownfield. She was born June 11, 1923, in Winters to Joe and Ruby Awalt. She graduated from Winters High School in 1940 and married Adrian R. Kornegay on Jan. 25, 1941, in Abilene. He preceded her in death on Dec. 18, 2000. They moved to O'Donnell in 1946, to Levelland in 1952 and to Brownfield in 1961. Alta was employed with Walmart for seven years prior to her retirement. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She is also preceded in death by five brothers and a sister. Alta is survived by two daughters, Peggy Howell and husband Bobby and Kathy Brock and husband Rickey of Brownfield; a sister, Loretta Gravell of San Angelo; a brother, Dalvin Awalt of Midland; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
