Obituary for
Esther Ruth Henson

Services for Esther Ruth Henson, 90, of Brownfield were held Saturday, Nov. 25,
in the First Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Land officiating. Burial
was in Terry
County Memorial Cemetery. Mrs. Henson died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2006,
in Seminole.
She was born Aug. 3, 1916, in Jack County to Jesse and Effie Smith.
Mrs. Henson moved to Terry County with her family in 1920 and graduated from
Brownfield High School, then attended Texas Women's College in Denton.
She
married Guthrie Allen in 1936. They lived in Sudan where they ran a drugstore.
She later married Joe Henson in 1952. He died in 1998. They lived in
Brownfield
on the home place and farmed for many years. She was very involved
on the farm
and raised five children.
Mrs. Henson was also involved in the Community of Brownfield. She was a
member
of the Terry County Historical Committee, Garden Club and the Terry County Art
Association. She was also a member of the Brownfield Cemetery
Association, Eastern
Star and was instrumental in establishing the Windmill Park in Brownfield.
She gave of
her time as a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School Teacher.
She also painted
and sewed.
She is survived by one daughter---Linda Hamilton of Kerrville and four
sons---Guy of
Seminole, Roger of Arlington, Ricky and his wife---Mona of San Antonio and Randy
and his wife---Machille of Wheeler. She is also survived by one
sister---Ruby Nell
Gardner of New Cannan, Conn. and by 12 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren
and
one great-great-grandchild. She was also preceded in death by one
granddaughter---Callie
Henson in 1993; one great-grandson---Zackary Henson in 1998 and two brothers---Fayne
and J.E. Smith.
