She was born on June 6, 1908, in the Oklahoma Territory near Texmo, Okla., to Talbert Dalton and Emma Sams Keith and moved with her family to Quay County, N.M., in a covered wagon as a child. She then moved from Clarendon to Tahoka in 1933. Iva was the chief of telephone operations in Tahoka for GTE before transferring to the Brownfield office in 1960, where she continued working for GTE until retiring in 1968. She later moved to Littlefield. Mrs. Goree enjoyed antiquing, collecting and loved sales. She is preceded in death by her husband Bill Goree in 1980 and by a son, Roy Elliott, who passed away in Vietnam in 1968. She was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church. She is survived by one son, Dean and his wife Karen Elliott of Littlefield; five brothers, LeRoy "Tex" Keith of Denton, Neil Keith of Peosta, Iowa, Tommy Keith of Colorado Springs, Colo., Melvin Keith of Logan, N.M., and Alvin Keith of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and five grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be sent to a favorite charity. Brownfield News |
