Reverend Jack Kirk Garrett, 84, of Brownfield went to Heaven on Wednesday, June 16, 2010.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, June 21, 2010, at First Christian Church with Rev. Michael Passmore and Rev. Ken Reeder officiating. Interment will follow at Terry County Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home.

Jack was born on May 20, 1926, in Harrogate, Tenn., to Herbert and Dorothy Garrett. He moved to Cisco when he was 18 months old, where he attended schools and graduated from Cisco High School. He then joined the United States Army in 1944.

He graduated from Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville, Ga. He served two and a half years in the army of occupation in Germany. After being honorably discharged from the army, he returned to Cisco, where he married Robbie McNeely on May 16, 1947. He and Robbie received bachelor's degrees from Texas Christian University and he went on to receive a Master of Divinity from Brite Divinity School in Fort Worth.

In his 50 years of ministry he served these Texas Disciples of Christ Churches: Rochelle, Blooming Grove, Wellington, Seminole, White Settlement, Center and Brownfield. He celebrated the completion of his 30th year at the Brownfield First Christian Church, retiring in 1991.

After his retirement, he served as interim pastor in Lampasas for seven months and in Lamesa for five years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Mary Olive Heifrin and Dorothy Knight.

Jack is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Robbie Garrett of Brownfield; four daughters, Anne Miller of San Antonio, Jean Seekamp and her husband John of Corpus Christi, Barbara Garrett of Lubbock and Pamela Bailey of San Antonio; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren and a host of friends.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to: the Jack and Robbie Garrett Scholarship Fund at Brite Divinity School, TCU, 2800 S. University Dr., Fort Worth, TX 76129.
