Joe Gayle Fleming

Services for Joe Gayle Fleming, 77, of Meadow were held Friday, Sept. 29,
in the Meadow First Baptist Church with Rev. Ken McClung and
Rev. Leslie Lewis officiating. Burial was in Southland Cemetery in Southland,
Texas under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home.
Mr. Fleming died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2006 in Lubbock. He was born
Dec. 2, 1928 to S.A. and Tince Fleming in Goodlett and was married to
Mary Etta Norman on Sept. 23, 1951, in Grassland. They had been
married for 55 years.
Mr. Fleming graduated from Southland High School in 1946. He also
graduated from Texas Tech Univ. in 1950 with a B.S. Degree in Agronomy
and Farm Machinery. He was also active in the intramural sports and the
Kemas Social Club at Texas Tech. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran with
four years service in the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Fleming was a farmer and rancher in Garza, Hockley and Terry counties.
He retired from farming in 1998 and from ranching in 2001. He was named
the Outstanding Dryland Farmer in Terry County in 1985.
He served on the Terry County FHA Committee for seven years. He also served
on the Terry County Hospital Board and had been a member of the Meadow
First
Baptist Church since 1959 where he taught Sunday School and served on
various church committees.
He was preceded in death by one son--Daniel on Sept. 19, 2000.
Mr. Fleming is
survived by his wife, Mary Etta, of Meadow and by one daughter, Traci Carlisle,
and her husband, Jim, of Carrollton.
Family members served as pallbearers. Memorials may be made to the
Meadow
First Baptist Church or to the charity of your choice.
