Hernandez Curiel, 92, of San Antonio and formerly of Meadow passed
from this life on Saturday, February 11, 2012, in San Antonio.
Visitation was held from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday February 14, 2012
with a rosary starting at 6:30 p.m. Services were held at 10 a.m.
Wednesday, February 15, 2012, at St. Antony's Catholic Church in
Brownfield with Father Gerald Leatham officiating. Personal services
were entrusted to Mark A. Jones Funeral Directors of Brownfield.
Ms. Curiel was born May 8, 1919, to Jose and Matilde Hernandez in
Yorktown. She married the love of her life, Anastacio Curiel on
August 2, 1937, in Orange Grove. He preceded her in death in
February 2005.
Ms. Curiel enjoyed getting together with her family and attending
family reunions. She enjoyed dancing, playing dominos and cards. She
made awesome tamales and loved to cook. She especially loved to sing
church songs and read the Bible and was most proud of her religion.
Those left to cherish her memories are her stepmother: Josephina
Millstead of Lubbock; three sons, Jose Curiel and wife Joann of
Brownfield, Robert Curiel and wife Sylvia of Hondo and Ruben Curiel
of Dallas; three daughters: Matilde Curiel Perez and husband Mario
of Meadow, Juanita Curiel Perez and husband Arturo and Silvia Curiel
Perez and husband Andy, all of San Antonio; three brothers, Chris
Hernandez and Joe Hernandez, both of Lubbock and Paul Hernandez of
Amarillo; four sisters, Corina Rangel of Lubbock, Mary Holguin of
Dallas, Rose Vecchio of Lewisville and Julia Rojas of Oak Leaf. Also
left behind are 27 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren
and great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; one son, Eliseo Curiel Sr.
on January 11, 2005; and one sister, Victoria Mireles.
