James Clevis Chambers, 93, of Brownfield passed into the arms of God on Sunday evening March 7, 2010, at his home.

Services were held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at Brownfield First Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Land officiating. Interment will be in Terry County Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home.

Clevis was born on February 2, 1917, in Rush Springs, Okla., to Mack and Ruby Chambers. He was the second of eight children. He and Clover Barton married on December 19, 1939. She preceded him to Heaven on October 7, 2009.

Clevis, at age 8, and his family first came to Terry County in 1925 to help harvest cotton. After a short time in California they returned to Brownfield in 1927 to live. He retired after 50 years of farming. 

Clevis enjoyed blue grass and fiddle music. He was a member of First Baptist Church.

He is survived by three sons, Buster and wife Nancy of Morton, Jimmy and wife Becky of Brownfield and Dr. Ron Chambers of Savoy, Ill.; seven grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; a sister, Doris Gannon of Ft. Worth; two brothers, Carl Chambers and wife Bonnie of Odessa and Claude Chambers and wife June of Austin; numerous nieces and nephews; very special caregivers, Bryan and Gloria Chambers.

Those welcoming him home were the love of his life, Clover; his parents; sisters, Cleo Barton and Louise Luker; brothers, Clifford and Cecil; great grandson, Dylan Thomas.
