Obituary for Reyes "Ray" Bergara

Services for Reyes "Ray" Rios Bergara, 85, of Brownfield were held Friday, Nov. 23, in the Brownfield Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Deacon George Holguin officiating.   Burial was in Brownfield Cemetery.

Mr. Bergara died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2007, in Brownfield.   He was born April 20, 1922, in Pearsall to Andreas and Torivia Bergara.   He married Mary Ybarra in 1947. They moved to Brownfield in the 1950's and she died on Jan. 13, 2006.

Mr. Bergara had served as a deputy sheriff in Brownfield and was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church.    He was preceded in death by one son--Sam Bergara on June 1, 1988.

He is survived by five sons--Ray, Jr., of Houston, Ruben of San Angelo, Richard and Rudy, both of Brownfield, and Ramond of Canyon.

Mr. Bergara is also survived by three daughters--Sylvia Vasquez of LaPorte, Selma Reyes of Lubbock, and Sonia Cruz of Brownfield and by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
