He will be in state at the funeral home on Monday from 9am until service time.

Steve passed away Friday, August 19, 2011, in Lubbock. He was born September 3, 1943, in Brownfield to W. L. "Doc" and Della B. Benton. He graduated from Union High School and then attended Texas Tech University. Steve married Judy Jackson on April 27, 1962, at her parents' home in Wolfforth. He worked most of his life in high-steel heavy construction and in 1987 returned to Brownfield, where he farmed south of Union until he was licensed as a Master Plumber.   He and his wife operated their Benton Plumbing Company for many years until his health forced him to retire. He surrendered his life to Christ in 1967 and was a long-time member of Immanuel Baptist Church.  Steve was first and foremost a loving husband and father.  His favorite pastime was his motorcycle. He spent many times modifying and riding his Harley Road King and taking his grandchildren and great grandchildren riding.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents.   He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Judy of Brownfield; two daughters, Stacy Benton and Sonya and husband Kelly Betterton of Brownfield; a son, Steven L. Benton of Brownfield; nine grandchildren, Jaython, Steven and Alisha Betterton, Kendra and Morgan Halsell, Terra Benton and Adrian Benton, all of Brownfield, Zak Benton of Denver, Colo., and Aleah Benton of Crosbyton; seven great grandchildren; two brothers, Jim Benton and wife Yvone of Dayton and Ed Benton and wife May of Lubbock.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to a charity of one's choice.
