Services for J. L. Bass, 89, of Farwell and formerly of Brownfield will be at 2pm, Friday, Aug. 2, at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Field and Rev.Steve Carter officiating. Burial will follow in Terry County Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home.

J. L. passed away Aug. 26, 2008, in Farwell. He was born June 14, 1919, in Breckenridge, to J.C. and Sarah Jane Bass. He attended and graduated from Union High School and attended Howard Payne University. He was a World War II US Army Veteran. He pastored churches in West Texas including Calvary Baptist in Brownfield and one in Arkansas. He was a member of Farwell First Baptist Church.

Mr. Bass is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Curtis Bass; and two sisters, Ozella Hill and Leta Mae Bryant.

He is survived by his wife, Flaura Lee Bass of Farwell; three daughters, Sherry Field of Jefferson City, Mo., Joyce Johnson of Farwell and Jana Hensley of Hattiesburg, Miss.; five grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and a brother, Otis Bass of Brownfield.

The family suggests memorials to the Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund in Brownfield or the J. L. Bass Ministerial Scholarship Fund at the First Baptist Church in Farwell.   Online condolences may be made at
