Barrera, 74 passed away Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008, in Lubbock.
A Rosary was held Tuesday, Dec. 2 at Mark A. Jones Memorial Chapel
in Brownfield. Funeral Mass was held Wednesday, Dec. 3 at St.
Anthony's Catholic Church with Father Gerald Leatham officiating.
Burial followed in Brownfield Cemetery. Mr. Barrera was born Feb. 18, 1934, to Ricardo and Catarina Barrera in Yorktown. He lived in Brownfield for 50 years and married Hermila Garcia, his wife of 47 years, in January 1956 in Brownfield. She preceded him in death on Aug. 26, 2003. His family remembers him best as a man that stayed busy, loved time with the family and had a strong love for all the grandkids. He was known to everyone as Grandpa. They will especially miss his wonderful Christmas decorations. He is survived by three sons; Alejandro, Jr., and wife Sylvia Barrera of Levelland, Joe and wife Norma Barrera and David Barrera, all of Brownfield; three daughters, Gloria Luera, Alicia and husband Manuel and Bea Constancio all of Brownfield; three brothers, Macario Barrera of Gregory, Bernardo Barrera of Portland, Texas and Ponciono Barrera of Aransas Pass; and three sisters, Juanita Hernandez and Palmira Hinojosa, both of Portland, Texas and Catarina Pantoja of Gregory. He also leaves behind 15 grandchildren and 13 Great-Grandchildren. He is preceded in death by both parents, three brothers and one grandson. Personal services were provided by Mark A.
