Services for Ray D. Abney, 87, of Brownfield were held Monday, Feb. 26, in the Brownfield Funeral Memorial Chapel with Bob Reynolds officiating. Burial was in Brownfield Cemetery.

Mr. Abney died Friday, Feb. 23, 2007, in Brownfield.   He was born
May 3, 1919, to James and Etta Abney in Hale Center and was first married to Wilma Williams Rice on Oct. 1, 1956, in Brownfield.   She died on March 20,1997.   He was later married to Cleo Gann.  She died in Feb. 2007.

Mr. Abney moved with his family to Brownfield in 1921 and attended school in there.   He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and was employed by Goodpasture for more than 20 years.

Mr. Abney is survived by four sons---Don Abney of Patterson, La., Wayne McCarley of Lafayette, La., Elbert Rice of Red Oak and Roy Rice of Stamford and three daughters---Kay Abney of Fayetteville, Ark., Stella Roe of Brownfield and Jo Ann Littlefield of Atlanta, Ga.

He is also survived by one brother---James of Hobbs, N.M.; two sisters---Dortha Marsh of Brownfield and Lillie Mae Willis of Lubbock and by 15 grandchildren.   Mr. Abney is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews and he is also survived by his best friend/guardian angel/nephew---Troy Willis.
