SHOOKS CEMETERY

Located on the very edge of Lake Tawakoni : John Franklin SHOOK gave land for the cemetery after 1852 when he moved to the community, which was then part of Hunt Co. There are many STOCKTONs, LYNCHs, HUGHES, SHUMATEs, STUARTs, SHOOKs, etc. buried there. The HUGHES and LYNCH families, who owned most of the land north and west of J.F. SHOOK's property, gave land for the LYNCH Cemetery and the SHOOK Cemetery was abandoned. The last person interred in the Shook Cemetery was Martha Catherine SHOOK HOOTEN, Sept. 13, 1916.
