Judge HALL convened District Court here Monday morning for the two weeks term with the empanelling of the following Grand Jury:

Arrests have not been made in the other cases.

Neal Case Goes to Trial Monday.
The case of E.F. NEAL, charged with the murder of Claud TAYLOR last November, went to trial Monday morning in District court here, and the work of selecting a jury consumed the time up to about 2:30 oclock Tuesday. After the jury for the week and the special venire of 80 men had been exhausted, fifteen additional men were summoned to finish up on, the following twelve have been chosen:

Something near fifty witnesses were sworn in for testimony in this trial. District Attorney POTTS, Judge BERZETT and Hon. Buck W--- of Wills Point. The defendant is represented by Messrs. CARTER & RODES of Emory and Hon. Clyde SWEETON of Greenville. Every inch of the ground is being fought over very stubbornly.
The testimony was finished Wednesday evening but the lawyers did not argue the case until yesterday morning and the Judge delivered his charge to the jury just before twelve oclock yesterday morning, and up to the hour of going to press had not reached a verdict.Rains County Leader, 9-22-1922

District Court Grindings
Jim MATTHEWS, who was charged by indictment in several cases with the manufacture of intoxicating liquors, plead guilty and was given 1-1/2 years in the penitentiary.
Maxey LAMB, charged with the manufacture of intoxicating liquor, plead guilty and accepted a 1-1/2 years sentence in the penitentiary.
Sam PENNEBAKER, charged with manufacture of intoxicating liquors, is set for trial next Monday.
The NEAL Murder case is set for Monday.
Witness Will BOYD was fined $25 in each of 19 whiskey cases and ordered by the Court to be put under $500 bond in each case.
Anon McMILLAN, charged with violation of the whiskey laws, plead guilty and was given 1-1/2 years in the penitentiary.
Harry DISMON, charged with burglary, plead guilty and was given a 5-year suspended sentence in the penitentiary.
Witness Hope GILL, who refused to talk to the Grand Jury, was fined $100 by the Court, and placed in jail until he satisfies the Grand Jury by talking.
Witness Grady BUSBY was fined $100 and ordered placed under a $1000 bond for his appearance.
The T.F. ROBERTSON cases for violation of the liquor laws was continued for the term.
The jury for the week was excused by Judge HALL Tuesday evening.
The Grand Jury has returned 31 indictments up to Thursday morning. 19 for felony and 12 misdemeanors. The Grand Jury adjourned yesterday evening until Monday morning.

Frank KELLEY, Claude COLBERT, G. BLALOCK and Odi BLALOCK, charged with theft of watermelons, entered a plea of guilty and were each given a fine of $5.00 and one day in jail.
Some cases were set down for trial next week.
Chester HORSLEY, a young man about 20 years of age, had to be detained Wednesday evening on account of the condition of his mind and he is to be given a trial within the next day or two.

The jury in the John SISK case, which was on trial last week, was a mistrial, the jury failing to reach a verdict, and were discharged by the Court.
The jury in the R.L. CASON case also failed to agree and were discharged Wednesday night.
B.H. HAMILTON was acquitted of a charge of swindling by a jury.
James RICE, charged with possession of a still, went to trial yesterday afternoon, and this will be the last criminal case taken up this term of the court, which comes to a close Saturday nightRains County Leader, July 2, 1926

Monday, May 15th, will be criminal week.
Jack Forbis of Terrell charged with failing to stop and render aid, entered a plea of guilty. The Court gave the defendant a one-year suspended sentence and placed him under a $500 bond.
Other criminal cases were passed for the week.
Two civil cases are set down for hearing today, Friday, and one for hearing next week. The Grand Jury is still grinding, having made no report up to this time.

Marvin Mathis, charged with manufacture and possession of intoxicating liquors, dismissed account of the defendant is dead.
Frank Fricks, charge of child desertion, was found guilty by a jury Wednesday, and his punishment was assessed at 2 years in the penitentiary.
Roy Stevens, charged with possession and transportation of liquor, entered a plea of guilty and was given a 2 years suspended sentence.
Harry Schrimsher, charged with transportation and possession of intoxicating liquors was given a 5-year suspended sentence.
Denis McDonald, charge of possession and transportation of whiskey, on a plea of guilty, was given a 2-year suspended sentence.
Jack Cooper, theft over value of $50, on a plea of guilty was given a 2-yars suspended sentence.
Lawrence Waldrop, manufacture and possession of liquor, was given a 2-years suspended sentence.
R.A. Brown, charged with possession and transportation of whiskey, on a plea of guilty was given a 3-years suspended sentence.
C.E. Pugh, charge of possession and transportation of intoxicating liquor, plead guilty and was given a 3-yars suspended sentence.
Frank Williams, charge of manufacturing and possession of intoxicating liquors, on a plea of guilty, was given a 5-years suspended sentence.
Harvey Haught, burglary charge, plea of guilty and 5 years in the penitentiary.
Tom Fowler, burglary, plea of guilty and defendant was given a 2-year sentence in the pentitentiary.
Bob Morris, charged with theft of chickens, plead guilty and his punishment was assessed at 2 years in the penitentiary.The Grand Jury returned 15 felony indictments up to the time of adjournment Thursday of last week. They recessed until yesterday morning when work on some unfinished investigations were resumed. Court for the week was adjourned by Judge Berry until Monday when it is espected to try a few more Criminal cases.
