Photo shows the cabin at Pilgrim Rest about 1900-1901. As best we know, the cabin was built in the 1850's, after Samuel Gee moved to Texas from Alabama.
In 1857 the patented 312.8 acres between Lake Fork
and the Sabine River to my ggggf Samuel Gee.
Known on subsequent deed records as the Samuel Gee Survey, this land was located in Wood Co. and became part of Rains Co when thelatter was formed in 1870.
(We are not sure why the date 1849 appears on the photo.)
Family legend says that the cabin was built by slaves,
with logs hauled from Lone Oak. The remains of the cabin stood until the 1970's. The young lady in the middle is my ggm Chloe Gee Horsley.
The couple standing with her are Mr & Mrs John
Vincent (probably John M & Louisa Edith Gee Vincent, Samuel's daughter). Chloe Attie Gee, a granddaughter of Samuel, was born in this cabin in 1884.
She married Joe Signor Horsley in 1900, about the time of this photo, five of their six children were also born in this cabin.
