Death Visits Emory Saturday Morning
F.C. Whittle Dies After Suffering Few Days from Stroke of ParalysisMr. F.C. Whittle, one of our business men and a highly respected citizen of our little city, died at his home on North Ravine Street about one oclock Saturday morning as a result of a stroke of paralysis he had had about four days previously. He was never able to talk after receiving the stroke but seemed to remain conscious up to the last and his life seemed to pass out quietly into the vale from whence no man returneth, surrounded by all the members of his family.
Mr. Whittle was born in Batesburg county, South Carolina November 8th, 1853, married to Miss Ella Cates October 28th, 1879 and came to Texas in 1885. He is survived by his wife, four children W.C., John, William and Mrs. A.K. Boswell all who reside in this city; a sister, Mrs. Nettie Willis of Burg, Arkansas; and another sister who lives in South Carolina. He had been a Christian since early life and a member of and deacon at the Baptist church. He was a good citizen, a lover of home and his family and his passing from this life leaves a ragged edge of sorrow and mourning in its wake. His remains were laid to rest Saturday afternoon in the Daugherty cemetery, in the presence of a large concourse of relatives and friends, Rev. C.M. Martin conducting the funeral services. The Leader would offer its sincerest sympathy and condolence to the mourning companion and sorrowing children. UNMARKED GRAVERains Co. Leader Submitted by Elaine Nall Bay

In Memory of One Just Gone
After a lingering illness of about 22 days, the Grim Reaper visited the home of Mr. Drue Cooke on the night of Jun 24, 1921, and took from him his dear companion, Viola. One of our most highly appreciated neighbors and church workers. She was a true Christian, having spent the latter part of her life for God. She leaves a devoted husband and babe, and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her untimely departure from this earth, but rejoicing over Heavens gain. It was sad indeed to see the young wife and mother taken from the home only to leave it desolate, but thanks be to God she is free from all suffering and temptations. We pray that the husband will so consecrate his life for Gods cause that he might be an example and guide for the babe to go by in gaining a place in Heaven to again be in the arms of his mother. Never have we witnessed such a struggle for life. Not that she feared death, for she left this testimony:
I am safe and secure, willing and ready to go. Do not weep for me. Only strive for your own souls salvation; that I may meet you beyond the Golden Gates.
She prayed, if it be Gods will to look down upon her in his tender mercy, and spare her life, that she might live to raise the little one for Him, who had give the little bud to bloom in their home. But God saw fit to call her home for some great purpose we know not. We come here only to stay a little while and then be plucked out like a lily in the grass. We must be submissive to the inevitable, for He doeth all things well.
God moves in a mysterious Way, His Wonders to perform. But when all his purposes have been unfolded, He will be His own interpreter. He will make it plain. Faith penetrates the veil and bids the invisible stand disclosed. While its magic wand wakens unto life, forms well know, but Holier and lovelier than we knew them here. All of the physicians of our land were summoned but all that could be done was of no avail. God said: I need you, you must come home.
The home will be lonely, but God will strengthen their broken hearts. It was sad indeed to see and hear her kiss and caress husband and babe for the last time here on earth, but waiting their coming in eternity. Remember dear husband, that there is a time to come when you can meet her and separation will be no more.
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. (Romans 10:13)Pm the 25th day of June 1921 her remains were conveyed to the Daugherty cemetery where the funeral services were appropriately conducted by Rev. Parkins, her pastor. After which, among a number of sorrowing relatives and friends, we laid away our loved one, placing flowers on the new made mound we left Viola to wait the coming of the Savior to claim her as His own. We saw the father and mother bending low over the grave where their hearts dearest treasure had been laid. To them we can only say that the same divine power who took away your treasure will pour balm on your wounded hearts and give you grace.
Now she has crossed the shining river safe; She rests on yonder shore; She is in her home eternal, With loved ones gone before. A very true friend, Della Blanton**
Card of ThanksWe wish to thank each and every one for their loving kindness during the sickness and death of our darling wife, daughter and sister, Viola Cooke, and hope that each of you may ever be blessed with such loyal friends and neighbors in times of sickness or distress. Dont hesitate calling upon us, and we pray Gods richest blessings upon you, and that God will always be mindful of you in time of trouble. Her Husband, Parents, Brothers, Sisters
