Attends Birthday Dinner At Bonanza

Mr. J.A. Abercrombie attended a big birthday dinner near Bonanza Monday in honor of Dr. J.M. Speed, an old timer in this section of the country. Dr. Speed has lived on this same farm for many years, and this is an annual occurrence, where a large number of relatives gather to celebrate the event. Dr. Speed was eighty-eight years old Monday, and is still hale and hearty. In making the announcement of the event last weeks issue of the Hopkins County Echo had the following to say about Dr. Speed:

He practiced medicine until about six years ago when, on account of his age, he retired to the farm.

Many of his old friends will be surprised to know that he does not use a walking cane to assist him in getting about.

In the winter he shoulders his axe and goes to the woods and cuts his winter wood although he was much younger than he is.

Then in the spring comes plow time. You will find Dr. Speed in the field, the same as others tilling the soil.
