Funeral services for Vernon Wesley Lay, 91, of Yantis were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 29, at Lake Fork Baptist Church, Alba, with Bro. David Smith officiating. Burial was in Lake Fork Baptist Memorial Cemetery, Emory, under the direction of Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home, Alba. Pallbearers were Vance Lay, Monte Lay, Randy Rankin, Blaine Willis, and Cody Willis. Mr. Lay died Saturday, Dec. 25, 2004, at ETMC-Tyler. He was born Feb. 25, 1913, in Nevada. He formerly lived in California and moved to Yantis four years ago. He was a retired truck driver. He served in the Army during World War II. He was a member of Lake Fork Baptist Church and a member of the mens Sunday school class. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Jim Schmidt of Antwerp, NY; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Henry and Polly May Baird Lay; and his wife, Eva D. Lay in 1971.Rains County Leader

Funeral services for Robert Wayne Russey, 62, of Yantis will be held Wednesday, June 29 at Lake Fork Baptist Church in Alba with Bro. David Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Lake Fork Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home of Alba. Pallbearers will be Curtis Bailey, Gary Large, Bob Stevenson, Tommy Jones, Lynn Drum and Doug Otto. Mr. Russey died Sunday night, June 26, at his residence in Yantis. He was born October 24, 1942, in Fort Worth, and he moved to Yantis in 1994. He was a member of Lake Fork Baptist Church in Alba. He was a fork lift driver and was retired from General Motors after 35 years of service. After moving to Yantis he became a fishing guide on Lake Fork and was a guide for five years. He was a member of United Auto Workers for 35 years. Russey was in the National Guard and was a military medic. He is survived by his wife, Donna Bilderback Russey of Yantis; four daughters and sons-in-law, Stacy and Mitch Rozell of Southlake, Keri and Jack King of Corinth, Lynn and Adam Dowell of Quitman and Sandra and Tom Manning of Arlington; one son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Rosa Holt of Percy, Ill.; one sister and brother-in-law, Gayle and Robin Watkins of Henderson; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Merrell and Ruby Lougine Henley Russey, and one brother, John Terry Russey. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
