Be it remembered that on the night of the 20th of November instant A.D. 1879
the Courthouse of Rains County, Texas, together with all the county Records Books,
Stationary vc was utterly destroyed by fire.....
November 22, 1879- special session of the
Commissioners Court of Rains County in the town of Emory
February Term 1885

It is ordered by the Court that H.E. Carnehan be appointed to serve until the
first regular meeting of said court of the year 1886 or until his successor is appointed
as Overseer of the Sulphur Springs Road precinct 15 [may be 18] which is bounded
as follows to wit
Beginning at the south side of the Slough Bridge Thence
with said Road to the county line, and is a 3rd Class Road and includes all the public
Roads within the aforesaid boundaries. And it is further ordered that he have
the following hands to work said Road to wit
T. W. Heath- Dan Heath- Gus Heath
A.D. Braziel- Thos. Braziel- John Ratliff
Wm Ratliff- Henry Middleton- C. C. Robbins
P. Vanlandingham- William Hurt- John Sulix
Will Wadford- Darb. McNeal- Wm Copeland
John Copeland- C. R. Anderson- Henry Jennings
Clint Demint
With Authority to Summon any and all persons not designated herein and
known by him to be liable to work on the public Roads within said precinct.

Ordered by the Court that the order passed by this Court
at its special session in the 16th day of January 1885
requiring county convicts to work on the public roads and bridges
in Rains County be and are the same is hereby rescinded.

It is ordered by the Court that L.D.C. Heath be appointed to serve
until the first regular meeting of said Court of the year 1886
(in the place and stead H.E. Carnehan over age) or until his successor
is appointed as Overseer of the Sulphur Springs Road precinct 15 [may be 18]
which is bounded as follows
