PFC Edward Doyle Powers, husband of Mrs. LoVonne Powers of Houston and son of Eldon Powers of Houston, was killed about Dec. 15. Powers and members of his platoon had been missing in battle since that date. Funeral services are pending the arrival of the body from Vietnam. PFC Powers will be buried in Palacios with full military honors. Taylor Brothers Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements. Besides his father and wife, Powers is survived by one son, Keith, 3 and two aunts, Mrs. Laure Harvey of Bay City and Mrs. Cleddie Harvey of Palacios. Powers' wife is expecting her second child in February. PFC Powers had served with the 7th Infantry in Vietnam since his assignment there in September of this year. Funeral services are set for 3 p. m. at the Palacios Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Palacios Cemetery. Funeral services for Eldon C. Powers of Houston were held at the First United Methodist Church in Palacios Saturday, May 29, at 4 p.m. with Rev. Carl L. W. Israel officiating. Burial was in the Palacios Cemetery. Son of Frank J. and Elsie Shumaker Powers, he was born in Palacios on January 9, 1923. He was a construction painter and had been a member of Painters' Local 130 in Houston for 28 years. He died in a Houston hospital on May 27 after a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by two sons, Thomas Eldon Powers in 1966 and Cpl. Edward Doyle Powers in Viet Nam in 1968. He is survived by his wife,
Jo Ann Powers of Houston; two sisters, Mrs. Fern Harvey of Palacios
and Mrs. Fay Harvey of Houston; two brothers, J. Elbert Powers and
Wilbur W. Powers, both of Port Neches; four grandchildren and
several nieces and nephews. |
