Brother Pilkington was also in attendance and confessed to the Moderator that he had been informed by some persons present that he had used harsh language toward the Moderator for which he asked pardon for, and as far as the Moderator was concerned he freely forgave him after which he shook hands with the Moderator and a majority of the Church, bidding them farewell and declaring himself no longer a member of the Church, after which a motion was made and seconded to exclude said Pilkington from the fellowship of the Church and he was unanimously excluded, more members voting by one than at the present Conference. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
ARTICLE 1st OF THE SCRIPTURE. We believe that the Holy Bible the usually received Books of the Old and New Testaments was written by Men divinely inspired is a perfect rule of faith and practice and that no sentiment is to be adopted as an article of faith nor any ceremony practiced as a religious rite that is not fairly deduced therefrom--it being its own interpreter. Whatever is there revealed is we hold to be received in the love of it, believe firmly and unwaveringly; and practiced in the true spirit of humility and reverence therein inculcated and required. ARTICLE 2 OF GOD THE TRINITY IN UNITY. We believe there is but one living and true God who is infinate in every natural and moral excellence and that He has revealed himself to us Father Son and Holy Ghost the same in essence and equal in divine qualities. ARTICLE 3d OF HUMAN DEPRAVITY. We believe that man was created upright but that by willfully violating the Laws of his maker he fell from that state and as a consequence of which he and his descendents became corrupt and sinful and back as all this and all are by Nature the children of wrath justly exposed to death and other miseries temperal, spiritual and Eternal. ARTICLE 4th OF THE ONLY WAY OF SALVATION. We believe that the only way of Salvation from this state of guilt and condemnation is through the righteousness and atonement of Jesus Christ our Lord, who, by a miraculous union of human with his divine nature became incarnate for the suffering of Death whom God had set forth to be the propitiation for our sins through faith in his Blood so died (?) are his righteousness for the remission of sins, whosoever believeth in him evangelically and truly shall not perish but have everlasting life. ARTICLE 5th OF GRACE AND THE WORK OF HOLY SPIRIT. We believe that all those who are the Subjects of faith and repentance become such in a consequence not of their own merit but of God’s own purpose a grace which was given us in Christ Jesus before the World began that the Holy Ghost without whose influence none would repent and believe performs the work of regeneration in the Heart and that such and such only as are truly converted become new Creatures are proper subjects for membership in the Church of Christ. ARTICLE 6th OF FINAL PERSEVERANCE. We hold that all true believers will buy the Grace of God will persevere in his love and service being kept by the power of God through faith and Salvation the sure and only final proof of regeneration consisting in the Continuance of their attachment and obedience to him to the close of life. ARTICLE 7th OF THE SACRAMENTS. We believe that in the Church of Christ there are but two Sacraments Baptism and the Lords Supper and the only proper subjects of these Sacraments are believers that immersion in water of a believer by regular ordained Baptist Minister in the Name of the Father Son and Holy Ghost upon profession of his faith in Christ is the only gospel Baptism and that such Baptism is essential to communion at the Lords Table. ARTICLE 8th OF CHURCH OFFICERS. We believe the Gospel authorized but two Officers in the Church of Christ Bishops and Deacons that all who are invested with the Office of Bishop Elder or Prysbyes are equal in every prerogative of the Ministry but possess by no means the power to lord it over Gods heritage and Deaconship is of a mixed nature partly Secular partly Spiritual. ARTICLE 9th OF CHURCH GOVERNMENT We believe that each individual Church assuming the word of God for its exclusive and infallible gide [guide?] possesses within itself all the requisite authority for its government. ARTICLE 10th OF THE SABBATH DAY. We believe that according to the example of the apostles and early christians sanction by the repeated presence of the Son God himself after the resurrection the first day of the week is to be observed as the Lords day or Christian Sabbath. ARTICLE 11th OF THE RESURRECTION AND FINAL JUDGEMENT. We believe that there will be a resurrection of the Just and unjust and that the Lord Jesus Christ will come to judge both the living and the dead and that those that have lived and died Impenitent and unreconciled to God will be sentenced to endless punishment according to their just deserts of their sins and those that have truly repented and turned to God relying solely on the merits of him who died the just for the unjust will be completely delivered from the dominion of sins and admitted into holy and Heavenly Jerusalem with songs and everlasting joy so shall we be ever with the Lord. |
