She died Monday, May 28, 2001 at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City.

Sam Mack Eaton Jr., 84, of Sweeny, Texas, passed away Dec. 13, 1995, at Matagorda House in Bay City, Texas. Funeral services are scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 17, 1995, at 2:30 p. m. at Shiloh Baptist Church in Cedar Lane, Texas, with the Rev. Carl L. Allison officiating. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery in Cedar Lane, Texas.

Alma Bernice Johnson Fields, age 90, of Bay City, Texas, passed away on Friday, April 3, 2020, in Sugar Land, Texas.

She was born in Collegeport, Texas on Friday, October 25, 1929 to Gifford Johnson and Martha Boone Johnson.

Viewing and guest book registry will be on Friday, April 10, 2020, from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home Chapel in Bay City.

A Homestead Benediction Service will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2020, at 11 a.m., with burial to follow at Shiloh Cemetery in Cedar Lane, Texas, with requests to respect rules for social distancing.

Survivors include five children, Russell Fields, Clevella Gray (Dennis), Cleveland Fields Jr., Herbert Fields (Helen), and Regina Medina; and a step-daughter, Lillian Sidney Fields.

Also, seven grandchildren, DeShawn, LaTorrie, Theodore, Marian, Tommy, Kisha and Shaundra; 19 great-grands, Aubrey, Taija, Trinity, Tia, TaMaury, DeShawn Jr., Fabian, LaTorrie Jr., LaTorria, Tavorius, Ky’Asia, Elizabeth, Aaliyah, Alton Jr., Adrian, Adrianna, Troy, Amos and Jaylin; and four great-great grands.

Also, one sister, Eddie Lou Griggs; and three brothers, James L. Johnson, Gifford Johnson Jr., and Curtis Johnson.

She also leaves three sisters-in-law, Betty Plummer, Wilada Green and Ida Emanuel; also a host of nieces, nephews, an enormous host of other relatives, many friends, including the Jesus Freewill Holy Temple Church, and lastly, her favorite family pet, Princess.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cleveland Fields Sr., her parents, Gifford and Martha Johnson; a step-son, Chester Fields; a son-in-law, Elibario Pena; two sisters, Gloria B. Moore and Mamie Lou Johnson; and two brothers, Wesley Johnson and Paul Johnson.

The Fields family extends “Special Thanks” to Dr. D’Lima, Dr. Hanna, Dr. Young, Dr. Idhe, and the medial staffs of Matagorda Regional Medical Center, Memorial Hermann Hospital and Kindred Hospital; and also Helen Fields, for their untiring support to Alma during this trying time.

Annie Fields

Funeral services for Annie Fields, 81, of Cedar Lane, will be held at 2 p. m. Sunday at Shiloh Baptist Church, Cedar Lane, with the Rev H. T. Aldridge officiating. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery, Cedar Lane.

A wake will be held from 7 to 9 p. m. Saturday at Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home Chapel, and visitation is scheduled from 1 to 2 p. m. Sunday at the church.

Mrs. Fields was born Aug. 20. 1903, to Clarence and Minnie Spiller Williams in Cedar Lane and died at 7:28 a. m. July 24, 1985, at Matagorda General Hospital. She was a member of the Baptist church and Olive Leaf Chapter 219, Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Tommie Fields Jr. of Cedar Lane; six daughters, Ophelia Griggs, Betty Plummer, Verna Ross and Ida Fields, all of Cedar Lane, Loraine Hadden of Sweeny and Wilada Green of Bay City; three sons, Hilliard Fields, Sr. of Bay City, Eugene Fields Sr. of Cedar Lane and Donald Fields Sr. of Brazoria; a sister, Lorena Brown of Cedar Lane; an uncle, Monroe Williams Jr. of Houston; 179 grandchildren, which includes three generations; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a family of friends.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, and honorary pallbearers will be her great-grandsons.

Funeral services for Archie Fields Sr., 95, of Bay City will be held 1 p. m. Saturday at Enterprise Baptist Church with the Rev. A. H. Pointer officiating. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery in Cedar Lane.

Visitation hours will be held this afternoon, and a wake will be held from 7 to 9 p. m. Friday.

Mr. Fields was born Oct. 18, 1894, to Tony and Meneriva Jones Fields in Texas and died Sept. 17, 1990, at Matagorda General Hospital.

He was a member of the Baptist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Fostena Edwards of Galveston, Mary Tolson of Bay City and Marilyn Lacey of Houston; six sons, Jimmie Fields of Houston, Archie Fields Jr., Herman Fields and Tommie Fields Sr. of Galveston, Hallard Fields of Freeport and Isiah Fields Sr. of Bay City; two sisters, Catherine Lewis and Evelyn Thomas of Bay City; two brothers, Lawery Fields of Bay City and Odie Fields of Brazoria; a sister-in-law, Ruth Hunt of El Campo; 45 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Cleveland Fields Sr.

In Matagorda County, Cedar Lane, Texas, a baby boy was born to Mr. and Mrs. Tommie Fields, Jr. on July 3, 1928.

He attended Public School in Cedar Lane. At an early age, he joined the Shiloh Baptist Church, Cedar Lane, Texas, and was baptized by the late Rev. F. M. Viola. Upon moving to Bay City, he united with the Enterprise Baptist Church. In February of 1974, he moved his membership back home at Shiloh.

On Friday evening, September 18, 1951, he joined in the Holy Bonds of Wedlock to Miss Alma Bernice Johnson of Bay City who was a loving, faithful and devoted wife until his death. To this union four children were born, two daughters and two sons: Clevella Marie, Cleveland, Jr., Herbert Lee and Regina Tricha Fields.

On Friday, June 20, 1975, at 1:45 P. M., he departed this life in the John Sealy Hospital, Galveston, Texas. He leaves to mourn his passing, his loving and devoted wife, Mrs. Alma B. Fields of Bay City, three daughters, Miss Clevella Fields, and Miss Regina Fields of Bay City and Miss Lillian Fields of Dallas, four sons, Russell Eugene, Cleveland Jr., and Herbert Lee Fields of Bay City and Chester Fields of Houston, two grandsons, DeShawn Craig and LaTorrie Tyrone Fields of Bay City and one granddaughter, Kisha Yvonne of Dallas, his loving parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tommie Fields of Cedar Lane, six sisters, Mrs. Ophelia Griggs, Mrs. Betty Plummer, Mrs. Loraine Clark, Mrs. Verna Ross, Mrs. Wilada Green and Miss Ida Fields, three brothers, Hilliard Fields, Sr., Eugene Fields, Sr., and Donald Fields, Sr., 4 aunts, 4 uncles, 1 great-aunt, 2 great-uncles, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Donald Monson Fields, Sr.
May 18, 1937 - January 23, 2016

Donald Fields was born on May 18, 1937 in Cedar Lane, Texas, Matagorda County to the late Tommie and Annie Williams Fields.

Donald grew up in the Cedar Lane Community. He accepted Christ early in life and was baptized and became a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. Donald was a graduate of O. H. Herman High School Class of 1955 in Van Vleck, TX. He was an avid football and basketball player for the O. H. Herman High "Steers."

After graduation he enlisted with the United States Army and was honorably discharged after serving two years. Donald was employed at Rheem Manufacturing, Freeport, Texas from 1961 to 1982 and retired after 21 years of service. Donald was later employed with Van Vleck Independent School District, Van Vleck, Texas form 1984 to 2002 and retired after 18 years of service.

Donald continued his love for sports by playing and coaching the Schlitz Bulls Baseball team, and helped coach the Cedar Lane Lady Sweaterrettes softball team. Donald loved to fish, bar-b-que, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Donald departed this life peacefully on January 23, 2016 at 10:19 PM at his residence surrounded by his family.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Tommie and Annie Fields; Son, Donald M. Fields, Jr.; Grandsons, Carl Roberts Fields; Sister: Minnie Ola Fields, Loraine Hadden, and Ophelia Griggs; Brother: Eddie Robert Fields, Cleveland Fields, and Hilliard Fields.

He leaves to cherish his memories a loving wife of 56 years; Betty Lou Fields, four daughters: Constance Fields (Fred), Sharon Oliver, Loretha Edison (Herman), and Jacqueline Higgins (Steven); two sons: Carl Fields (Jennifer) and Jarvis Jones; eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; four sister: Betty Plummer, Verna Ross, Wilada Green, and Ida Emanuel; and one brother: Eugene Fields, Sr. (Leola); two special friends: Earnest Pettit, Jr. and Lawrence Burnett, Sr., and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.

Eddie R. Fields

 

Funeral services for the Rev. Ernest S. Fields, 80, of Cedar Lane will be Saturday July 8, 2000 at 11 a.m. at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Cedar Lane with the Rev. S. Staten officiating and Moderator, the Rev. A. S. Johnson, messenger. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery in Cedar Lane. He died July 1, 2000 at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City.

He served in the U. S. Army where he achieved the rank of Sergeant, and was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Fields' pastoral ministry spanned a period of over 40 years. He began as Pastor of Large Concord Baptist Church, Brazoria, Texas. In 1961, the Rev. Fields was called to become Pastor of the Rising Star Baptist Church, Spanish Camp Community, Wharton, for which he served 22 years. In 1963, he was also called to become Pastor of Jerusalem Baptist Church in Brazoria and served there for 36 years. He retired from Pastoral duties in August, 1999, but continued as an Evangelist. Some of the Rev. E. S. Fields' accomplishments include serving as 1st-Vice Moderator for Southern District Association and Dean of the Gulf Coast Ministerial Alliance.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Maudrine Fields of Cedar Lane; three sons Ernest Coleman Fields (Betty) of Fairfield, Calif., the Rev. Harold Gene Fields (Paulette) of Dallas, Ronnie Earl Fields (Kim) of Houston; two daughters Gwendolyn LaVern Tates (Charles) of Houston, Jeanie Ladell Fields of Bay City; one brother Burrell Fields (Louis) of Houston; one sister, Eliza Thomas (Oliver) of Houston; nine grandchildren Reginald Wayne, Mario Tyrone, Shanta' Renee, Harold Gene II, Garrett Sidney, Charles Dondrei LaJon, Clinessa Maudrine, Christina Lynn and Timothy (Tim), nine great-grandchildren; three brothers-in-law Alex Sidney, Jr., Melvin Sidney, Carlos Sidney, Jr.; one uncle Lawyer Fields; one aunt Evelyn Thomas, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, Alex and Mary Sidney; husband, the late Rev. Ernest S. Fields; son, Ernest C. Fields, Jr.; brothers, Melvin Sidney, Nelson Sidney, Alex Sidney, Jr., Alfred Sidney, Buster Sidney and Carlos Sidney and sisters, Lawnie Franklin, Alesia Sidney, Allean Bryant, Algore Sidney and Besty Sidney.

Floyd Lee Fields

Floyd Lee Fields the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Plummer, was born at Cedar Lane, Texas Matagorda County, January 29, 1950.

At an early age he confessed faith in Christ and became a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. R. Waddy. He was also a member of the choir.

He attended the Herman Elem. School and was graduated from Herman High School, Van Vleck, Texas. He attended Wharton Jr. College, Wharton, Texas and Prairie View A & M College, Prairie View, Texas and was a student there until his death.

He departed this life Friday night, December 18, 1970 at 10:00 p. m.

Survivors: Mother and Father, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Plummer. Two brothers, Lewis, Jr. and Wayne Plummer. Five aunts and four uncles. Grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Tommie Fields, Mr. and Mrs. I. P. Plummer, and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was born in Cedar Lane, Texas, November 28, 1955, and passed away October 8, 2008, in Bay City. He was a 1974 graduate of Van Vleck High School.

Survivors include: his parents, Howard, Sr. and Verna Fields Ross of Cedar Lane; five children, Mike, Leroy, DeAdrain, Roosevelt and Tommie, and seven grandchildren. Funeral services for Oddie Fields Sr., 96, of Brazoria will be held 1 p. m. Wednesday at Shiloh Baptist Church in Cedar Lane with the Rev. E. L. Baker officiating. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery in Cedar Lane.

He died April 25, 1991, at Sweeny House in Sweeny.

He was a member of the Magnolia Baptist Church in Brazoria and the A. F. and A. M. Masonic Lodge 104 of Brazoria. He was also a veteran of World War I.

He is survived by his wife, Ezzie Louise Fields Sr. of Brazoria; three sons, the Rev. E. S. Fields of Cedar Lane, Burrell Fields of Houston and the Rev. Oddie Fields Jr. of Brazoria; three daughters, Nettie Ruth Stephney and Eula Mae Chatman of Galveston and Eliza Mae Thomas of Houston; two sisters, Evelyn Thomas and Catherine Lewis; a brother, Lawyer Fields of Bay City; 21 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers are the Masonic brothers.

Tommie Fields Jr.

Funeral services for Tommie Fields Jr., 82, of Cedar Lane will be held at 2 p. m. Saturday at Shiloh Baptist Church, Cedar Lane, with the Rev. ___ Fields officiating. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery, Cedar Lane.

Visitation will be 9 p. m. today at Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home Chapel and from 1 to 2 p. m. Saturday at the church.

Mr. Fields was born Oct. 28, 1903, in Brazoria County to Thomas and Menervia Taylor Fields and died at 3:05 a. m. Dec. 3, 1985, at his residence.

He was a member of the Baptist church and Gulf Coast Lodge 272.

Survivors include six daughters, Ophelia Griggs, Betty Plummer, Verna Ross and Ida Fields, all of Cedar Lane, Loraine Hadden of Sweeny and Wilada Green of Bay City; three sons, Hilliard Fields Sr. of Bay City, Eugene Fields Sr. of Cedar Lane and Donald Fields Sr. of Brazoria; two sisters, Catherine Lewis and Evelyn Thomas of Bay City; three brothers, Archie Fields Sr. and Lawyer Fields Sr. of Bay City and Oddie Fields Sr. of Brazoria; 179 grandchildren which includes three generations; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Fields, on July 24, 1985.

Arrangements are with Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home.
