Gloria Ann Mariner Gloria Ann Kreger Mariner Gloria Ann Kreger Mariner, 67, of Bay City passed away May 11, 1996 at Citizen’s Memorial Hospital in Victoria. She was born June 23, 1928 in Houston to August Harvey and Mary Rose Evelo Kreger. She had been a resident of Bay City since 1957 and was a member of the Catholic Church. She is survived by one daughter, Patricia Richmond of Edna; by one son Michael Mariner of Bay City; by one sister, Rosemary Follis of Tomball; and by three grandchildren. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 pm Tuesday, May 14, 1996 at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Msgr. James Bunner officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck. Arrangements are with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City.

Michael Clay Maxey Michael Clay Maxey Funeral services for Capt. Michael Clay Maxey, 88, of Louise will be held at 10 am Wednesday at Wharton Abundant Life Assembly of God with the Rev. Jerry Wise officiating. Burial and a Masonic graveside service will be held in Roselawn Memorial Park, Van Vleck. Mr. Maxey was born Sept. 29, 1948, in Bay City to H. C. Maxey and Eunice Jordan and died Aug. 24, 1987, at Southwest Memorial Hospital, Houston. He was captain of the Wharton County Sheriff’s Department. He was a member of the Abundant Life Assembly of God in Wharton, El Campo Masonic Lodge A. F. and A. M. 918, Houston Scottish Rite, Air Craft Owners and Pilot Association, Texas Funeral Directors Association, honorary member of the Louise Fire Department and past member of the Louise School Board. Survivors include his fiancée, Bootsie Vajdos of Louise, and three sisters, Marguerite Henderson of Columbia Lakes, Artie Sparks of Shawnee, Okla., and Patsy Ruth Ellis of Prague, Okla. Pallbearers include members of the Wharton County Sheriff’s Department, Sheriff Rudy Machala, Deputy Daniel Marek, Investigator Larry Hensley, Sgt. Mickey Spence, Sgt. Hal Dumas and Investigator David Marcaurele. Honorary pallbearers include all members of the Wharton County Sheriff’s Department. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Maxey. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Wharton Abundant Life Assembly of God. Services are under the direction of Dick R. Elkins, Bay City Funeral Home.

Larry B. Morrow Larry Baker Morrow Funeral services for Larry Baker Morrow, 31, of Austin, will be held at 2 pm Thursday at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Bay City, with the Rev. Milton McWilliams officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, Van Vleck. Mr. Morrow was born Nov. 15, 1952, in Bay City and died Oct. 12, 1984, in Austin. A former resident of Bay City, Mr. Morrow resided in Austin and San Marcos the last few years. He was affiliated with the Episcopal Church. Survivors include his father and stepmother, J. L. and Danna Morrow of Bay City; a sister, Martha Ann Morrow of Austin; a brother, Michael Bart Morrow of Houston; and a grandmother, Thelma Baker of Bay City. He was preceded in death by his mother, Martha Sue Morrow, who died Sept. 2 1969. Pallbearers include Dan Smith, Will Kyle, Lee Simpson, Matt Champion, David Culver, Tim Vaughan, Ronnie Janes, John Carrick and Burt Pluyman. William Bart Morrow Emily Elizabeth Morrow William Bart Morrow Funeral services for Mr. William Bart Morrow, Sr., 84, of Bay City are scheduled for 2 pm Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Frank Seaman officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck. Mr. Morrow was born April 6, 1900, in Mainer, Texas, and died May 10, 1984 at M. D. Anderson Hospital in Houston. He was a resident of Bay City since 1925 and a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He was a retired rancher and a veteran of WWI. Survivors include: two daughters, Joyce Wind of Danevang and Pat McMicken of Sugarland; two sons, William Bart Morrow, Jr. of Lake Jackson and James L. Morrow of Bay City; four sisters, Stella Adair, Selma Allison, Oma Feltner and Faye Jones, all of Austin; one brother, Anderson Morrow of Austin; and seven grand-children. His grandsons, Larry B. Morrow, Michael Bart Morrow, Ronnie C. Wind, Michael Cooper, Jerone Alrich and Dennis Clark. Will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers include P. J. Kinard, Jack Wikoff, John Dickerson Sr., Joe Griffith Sr. B. F. Schulz, S. J. Sliva and Scottie Dickerson. In lieu of the usual contributions, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Jimmy L. Powers Jimmy L. Powers, Sr. Funeral services for Jimmy L. Powers, Sr., age 74, of Bay City, will be held at 3 p. m. Thursday, June 19 at the First Baptist Church in Bay City with interment following at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck. Services will be officiated by Dr. Michael Zimmerman and the Rev. Richard DuBroc. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p. m. at the First Baptist Church of Bay City prior to the service. Pallbearers are James Sowell, Woody Riedel, Wayne Michael, Gaston Morton, Kirby Dismukes and J. L. Evans, Sr. Honorary pallbearers are the Deacons of the First Baptist Church and the Adult One Men’s Sunday School Class. Powers was born to Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Lee Powers to July 29, 1922 in Springhill, Louisiana and passed away at 4:45 a. m. June 18, 1997 at the Methodist Hospital in Houston. He has been a resident of Bay City since June 1957. He served for four years in the United States Navy during World War II onboard the USS Idaho in the South Pacific. He came to Bay City as a sales engineer for Dowell, a division of Dow Chemical Company. His last 15 years of employment were with Evans Oil Company in sales before his retirement in 1989. He was active in community affairs having served three terms in the Bay City Independent School District Board of Trustees as a member, and one term as Vice President. He was on the city council of Bay City. He served on the ad Hoc Committee for the Matagorda General Hospital, he chaired the Disaster Committee for the Red Cross of Bay City and he co-chaired the United Fund. He served in many leadership positions of the A. I. M. E. He was an active member of the Black Cat Booster Club and assisted as a volunteer in the Black Cat relays. For more than three decades, he could be found on the fifty-yard line supporting the Black Cat football team. Most important in his life was First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon since 1968 having chaired the deacon body twice. Powers is survived by his wife of 50 years Jeanne Sanders Powers; a son Jimmy L. Powers, Jr. and wife Betty of Jasper; a daughter Barbara Jo Baethe and husband Frank of Richmond; grandchildren who include Jimmy L. Powers III and wife Kim, Amy Elizabeth Powers, Troye Bradley and Jeanne Elizabeth Baethe; one brother, Rev. B. L. Powers of Bossier City, Louisiana and several nieces and nephews including Jeanne Beth Gray of Bay City. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church, 2321 Avenue F, Bay City, TX 77414. Sanders and Billie Daniel Sanders. She went to her eternal home on Tuesday, September 3, 2019. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters - Louise Albertson, Barbara Gibbs and her husband of 50 years, Jimmy L. Powers, Sr. Jeanne lived in Bay City, Texas, since 1957. In April of 2018, she moved to Cambridge Square Retirement Community in Rosenberg to be closer to family. Jeanne was a devout Christian, having accepted Christ at the age of 10 and was baptized by her grandfather, the Rev. W.D. Daniels, in Stanford, Texas. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and an adoring grandmother and great grandmother (G.G.). She is survived by her son, Jimmy L. Powers, Jr, and wife, Betty, of Jasper, Texas, and her daughter, Dr. Barbara Powers Baethe and husband, Frank, of Richmond, Texas. Grandchildren: Jimmy L. Powers, III (Jay) and wife, Kim; Dr. Amy Powers Woods and husband, Dustin; Brad Baethe and wife, Jennifer; Beth Baethe and Jon. Great grandchildren: Matthew Powers, Macy Powers, Tyler Woods, Payton Woods, Cash Hayes, and Riley Baethe; nieces and nephews including special niece and namesake, Jeanne Beth Gray of Bay City, Texas.
