Wilma "Billy" Vacek

Funeral services for Wilma “Billy” Vacek, 75, of Palacios, were held Jan. 17, 2005 at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.

She was born Sept. 22, 1929 in Alma, GA to Henry Elvin Strickland and Hattie Thornton Strickland. She died Jan. 12, 2005.

She was a long time resident of Palacios, a member of the First Baptist Church of Palacios, and was a retired receptionist.

Billy is remembered for being a loving and generous Mother, MeMe, and Great MeMe. She always put everyone else first and gave with love. She instilled in all of her children that family comes first. She is the rock that keeps the family strong. She is cherished by many friends as well as family.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law: Janice Elaine and Larry Fyffe of Gilmer, Tx. and Pamela Fay and Charlie Mullins of Gladewater, Tx.; her sons and daughters-in-law Wayne and Terri Vacek of Temcula, CA and Danny Louie and Mary Vacek of Houston; sister, Evon Rose of Palm Coast, FL; grandchildren Randy Vacek of Katy, Tx., Loree Tatum of Manvel, Tx., Brent Fyffe of Gilmer, Tx., Christi Brady of Crosby, Tx., Barbi Schroeder of Richmond, Tx., Misty Cook of East Asia, Stacy Vacek of San Marcos, CA and Courtney Anderson of West Jordan, UT; and great grandchildren, Kaylee Fyffe, Cole Brady, Abby Tatum, Ty Tatum, Randy Vacek, Jr. and Clayton Vacek. She is also survived by her beloved dog, Bach.

Final rites for infant Thomas Vaclavick were held at 2:30 pm Thursday at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Joseph Hamala of Blessing officiating.  The baby expired a few hours after birth on May 8 at Matagorda General Hospital. Burial was at Roselawn. Survivors are the parents Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur T. Vaclavick of Blessing, one brother, Allan Neal and one sister, Ellen Louise.

Librado Valdez

Librado Valdez, 65, of Freeport, passed away Sunday, February 6, 2005.

He was born January 6, 1940, in Rockport, Texas, to Jose R. and Matilda Valdez.

He is survived by: wife, Rachel Valdez; son, Librado Valdez, Jr.; daughters, Cynthia Valdez, Melinda Valdez and Karen Dee Valdez; two step-daughters, Marlene Madrigal and Vicky Paredes; brother, Jose Valdez, Sr. of Rockport; sisters, Dolly Garcia, Guadalupe Valdez, both of Rockport, Maria de la Rosa of Freeport, and Delores Roeglin of Little Rock, Arkansas; 16 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by: parents, Jose R. and Matilda; two infant daughters, Dena and Elva Valdez; brothers, Valde Valdez and Romero Valdez; and grandson, Roberto Barron.

Graveside services for Roverto Villafuerte of Bay City, age 1 day, were held Monday with the Rev. Edward Boren officiating.  Burial was at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.

Master Villafuerte was born Nov. 22, 1992 to Alfredo and Carmen Marie Jungo Villafuerte and he died the same day at Matagorda General Hospital.

George W. Walker, 79, of Ashwood, died at the family residence at 3 a. m. Thursday.

Funeral services will be at the Baptist Church at Pledger, 4:40 p. m. Friday with the Rev. A. White officiating. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Park with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home in charge.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. G. W. Walker of Ashwood; three daughters, Mrs. W. W. Bevers, Sargent, Mrs. Vera Walters, Sweeny, Mrs. Lucille Budat, Hockley; one son, George M. Walker of Ashwood.

Janell Webster, 46, of Sweeny, died Friday, Jan. 2, 2004.  She was born Aug. 21, 1957, in Bay City, to Kitty Rice Ward of Sugar Valley and to the late Coy Lafayette.

Survivors: sisters, Beverly Lyn Stroman of Sugar Valley and Linda Gayle Shaunessy of Michigan.

Services will be 2 pm Wednesday at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Buck Yarborough officiating.

(October 20, 1955 - March 17, 2007)

Georgia H. Weathers, 51 of Bay City, passed away Saturday, March 17, 2007 in Houston, TX. She was born October 20, 1955 in Bay City to Vencil A. Andel and Hattie S. Cykala Andel. She was a lifelong resident of Matagorda County and a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church.

She is survived by her husband: Lee Weathers; her son: Stephen Weathers and wife Michelle; her mother: Hattie Andel; sister: Patsy Woolsey; brother: Danny Andel, all of Bay City; and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father: Vencil A. Andel.

The Rosary will be held at 7:00 PM Monday, March 19, 2007 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, March 20, 2007 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Bay City with Rev. Samuel Appiasi and Rev. Casey Jarzombek officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck. Pallbearers will be Mike Burnside, Henry Seifert, Clarence Cerny, Clive Runnells III, Mack McLeod, and Nick Aparicio. Honorary pallbearers will be David Zapalac, Ed White, Cody Cerny, Clay Cerny, John Ashcraft, Hank Fitzgerald, Tim Brown, Shane Brown and Scott Brown.

Edgar Webb, 69, of Bay City died Sunday, June 25 in an auto accident near Sargent.  Survivors include: three sisters, Mrs. Eugene Laird of Wadsworth, Mrs. Annie Jo Smith and Mrs. Marietta Parks of Bay City; three brothers, A. C. Webb of Corpus Christi, Randal and Olga Webb of Bay City.  Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 27, at 4 pm at Taylor Bros. Chapel with Rev. John Webber, Sr.

Requiem Mass for John Webber, Sr., Bay City, will be said at 9 am Friday at the Holy Cross Catholic Church.

Webber, 68, died in Matagorda General Hospital Wednesday.

A native of Poland, he had been a resident of Bay City for the past 10 years.  He was a veteran of WWI and was a member of American Legion Post 11.

Rosary will be said at 7:30 tonight at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel.  The Rev. C. J. Martin will officiating and interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, Van Vleck.

Surviving are his wife; daughters, Mr. C. L. Stringer and Mrs. E. E. LaBauve, both of Houston; a son, John Webber, Jr., Bay City; eight grandchildren.

Josephine L. Webber

Funeral Mass for Josephine L. Webber, 91, of Bay City will be held 11 am Tuesday at Holy Cross Catholic Church, with the Rev. Charles Sonnier officiating.  Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, Van Vleck.

A rosary will be said 7 pm today at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel.

Mrs. Webber was born Jan 23, 1897, in Matagorda County, Texas, to Louis Ludwig and Mary Petrucha Gola and died May 1, 1988, at her residence.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary J. LaBauve of Houston and Rosalie Stringer of Pearland; a son, John Webber Jr. of Bay City; 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers include Kelly Webber, Gene LaBauve, Larry LaBauve, Carl Thomas Stringer, Charles Gola and Sylvester J. Sliva.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Webber Sr. in 1960.  Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home, Bay City.

Sybil K. Weiss
(December 20, 1933 - June 1, 2010)

Sybil Weiss of Bay City, Texas passed away on June 1, 2010 at home in Bay City at the age of 76. She was an early Christmas present born December 20, 1933 in Wadsworth, Texas to Eddie and Virginia Ryman. She grew up in Wadsworth and graduated from Bay City High School. She moved to New York City and met John Weiss, they fell in love and were married on March 16, 1958. They had three children , Mary, Susan, and John, Jr. . They moved to Bay City in October 1974 when John retired from the New York City Fire Department. Sybil is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, John Allen Weiss; by her children, John Weiss, Jr.; daughter-in-law Anissa Weiss; by her daughter, Mary Wolfe, Susan Crume & husband Jimmy; Grandchildren, Morgan Wolfe, Stacy O’Mallan, Mary Lantz, Amber Seward, Lauren Lantz, Danielle Wolfe, Derek Wolfe, Ashley Crume & Dustin Crume. She also had five great-grandchildren; Zacharie, Kaleb, Riley, Manson, James lll; two sisters, Gertrude Hardy and Rosemary Armstrong. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents Eddie and Virginia Ryman; brother, Roy, Robert, Raymond, Russell and a sister Margaret Verdecanna. Visitation with the family 6-8p.m. Friday and 6-8p.m. Saturday at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Funeral service 2:00 P.M. Sunday at the First Pentcostal Church in Bay City with Rev. Marvin Moore officiating. Burial to follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.

J. P. “Jim” Westmoreland

Funeral services for J. P. “Jim” Westmoreland, 75, of Bay City, will be 2 pm Monday at the Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel, Bay City, with the Rev. David C. Duncan officiating.  Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, Van Vleck.

Mr. Westmoreland was born Sept. 21, 1913, in Thorp Spring, Texas, to Dr. James P. and Grace Clapp Westmoreland Sr. and died Dec 24, 1988, at Matagorda General Hospital.

A resident of Bay City since 1941, Mr. Westmoreland was a member of the Presbyterian church, Masonic Lodge No. 865, the Houston Scottish Rite, the Arabian Temple and an ex-president of the Gulf Coast Shrine Club.  He was a veteran of WWII, having served in the merchant marines.

He came to Bay City as an inspector for the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1941 working on the Intercoastal Canal.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Baer Westmoreland of Bay City; three daughters, Mary Joan Sansing of Lago Vista, Texas, Kalyn Green of the Woodlands and Jami Ruth Holliday of Houston; three sons, Jim H. Westmoreland of Houston and Greg Baer Westmoreland and Reid Baer Westmoreland, both of Bay City; a sister, Eloise Bowids of Liguna Miguel, Calif.; and 13 grandchildren.

Pallbearers are Ted Westmoreland, Gary Sansing, Glenn Huebner, Ted Hall, Mike Burnside, John Laughlin, Lindsey Thompson and Camp Mehrens.

Honorary pallbearers are Melvin Blum, Bert Huebner, Hugh Strickland, Richard Dawdy, Bert Steves, Dr. James Cowart, Glen White, E. M. Huitt, Jr., Dr. Russell Matthes and Harry Norris. Also Joe Entzminger, Steve Parsuitt, Chalmer Hall, Dave Green, Randy Holliday, Herman Sansing, Cam Tally, Blair Smith and Bill Phillips.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kidney Association, the Dialysis Unit at Matagorda General Hospital or the American Diabetes Foundation.  Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home, Bay City.

Jewell Estelle Wicker

Jewell Estelle Wicker, 93, of Bay City died April 27, 2000 at Matagorda House. She was born Jan. 15, 1907 in Odell, Texas to the late Soloman W. and Minnie Johnson Gable. Mrs. Wicker has been a resident of Bay City since 1950.

Survivors include; nephew, Larry Prince of Killeen, Texas; and niece, Mary Deatherage of Fort Worth, Texas.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Everett B. Wicker, daughter, Faye Spears; sister, Evelyn L. Madison; and brothers, Vicrot and Clarence Gable.

Funeral services were to be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 29, 2000 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with the Rev. Lee Watson officiating. Interment was to follow at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Van Vleck.

Arrangements are with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.
